I actually think that the ref was right though am a bit surprised he gave a red rather than a yellow

Had Nani not jumped over the challenge he could easlily have been badly injured

I expected the ref to give a yellow - and if I was a City fan I would be a bit annoyed but I think the ref can justifiebly give a red for a 2 footed lunge like that- I disagree with Andy Townsends view it wasnt even a foul

I expected to see a yellow card, Dave

That would still have been my opinion had it been (for example) Ferdinand against Silva. I'm certainly not one of the 'Anyone But United' mob. However, I don't see why a player has to pick up a serious injury before a red card is justified.

Yeah got to agree mate in today's game refs are always going to give a free kick for that, City can certainly feel aggrieved with the sending off tho

I disagree with most of what Mr Townsend says. It's high time he was put out to pasture.

Harsh red on second viewing, looked bad as it happened. To be fair to the ref he hasn't got a second viewing and he can't see it slowed down. He had to make a decision there and then. Fact is you can't be lunging in like that.

I think the referee will be under extreme pressure

To even the numbers up, especially if City get back into the game by scoring.

The game's not over yet, Bryn

City themselves proved that a few years ago at Spurs. If they can get a goal back, anything can happen.

Not sure about that. The ref's made one harsh (but technically correct) decision. Absolutely no doubt about the penalty. Thought he should have booked Phil Jones earlier on, but apart from that, spot on in my mind.

agreed eaststand lower.... i am sorry farnham red....your knowledge of the game is zero if you think that was a red card....joke decision. the referee (Foy) is quite frankly abysmal,,,,,he was the same stoke v spurs recently........ how the hell does he keep his job.

folk like Foy ruining the game......................terrible referee

hope this helps but if you think that was a red card....you are beyond help

It was a foul as he went in two footed but it wasn't overly aggressive and nani just carried on to win the ball back. Think the intervention of Rooney lead to the red card.

I didn't think it was a red mate but really there's no need to answer Farnham or Calgarytyke like that,

Agreed. Rooney never fails be at the centre of controversy. Great player, but he really is pretty low in the way he behaves on and off the pitch. I hate to see players asking for others to be carded. Chief snitch.
