Could be the worst thing to have happened to him signing these big money players. His stock excuse has gone out of the window now so when we lose he can't blame anyone else anymore. Aldi and primark have been well and truly fecked off and replaced by morrisons and M&S
The common factor with respect to all four players is that they can be acquired quite cheaply in January. Effectively, Keith has acquired 4 players on an extended trial with a view to signing them permanently in January if they impress. I cannot see how anyone, even with the most anti-Hill bias, can fault this business.
Ok. I was just really musing about how on here it has bee said many times that Hill deserved to have some quality signings, well now he has them, The rest is up to him,
Off on Saturday, only 2nd game this season. Good signings, should have been this quality pre season though, might not have lost 1500 fans
I am not so sure they are quality. With the money that Leeds, Forest, Leicester and Cardiff will throw around in January in an attempt to get promoted, I think that our attempt to compete will look cheap in comparison. This is not a dig at Keith, or the BFC management and owner. It is more a note about the way that this forum goes from the depths of pessimism to the heights of over-optimism in just over a week, with very little on the field evidence to justify that optimism. Ultimately, if that optimism is not justified by subsequent performances, the eventual crash in supporter morale will make the last few weeks look like a holiday camp.
I reckon Hill is probably getting very similar financial backing to what Simon Davey and Mark Robins did...now we'll see how good he is. The signings look excellent on paper, the calibre of player that I thought was slightly out of our reach both in terms of finance and attraction to the club. Hill just needs to get them playing as they have done in the past - surely this is where a manager earns his money. Suppose the question is do you feed them into the side gradually or throw them all in from the start on Saturday?
Don't think it would have made a difference to crowd levels, we started the season very well and couldn't pull in a massive crowd even when the tickets were almost being given away for the Blackpool game. Too many people have got out of the habit of going yet want the team to do well. There was a point where I planned my life around going to all games at Oakwell - would never book holidays that overlapped a home game, certainly wouldn't have considered a job that involved working on a Saturday, even declined a wedding invitation once. Now I'm going to just over half of the home games and I see that as the minimum for me. A lot of taxi drivers sum it up, I always quickly get on to the subject of the club when in a taxi and the answer is always the same, "I used to go a few years ago but I'm not bothered anymore". It is a shame, the Premier League is a bit of pipe-dream at the moment but lets say that did happen again in the near future (and stay there) - the place would be full for the first two seasons, most people attending for the novelty factor, once that wore off we'd still probably only get about 14000 home fans for most of the games.
I totally agree with you mate. I guess i was just wondering if theses are the "quality" players Hill has wanted, then he can have no more digs at Aldi shopping, although there are plentyn of bargains to be had in there if you know what you are looking for !!
If we lose the next three then the happy clappers and hill will be saying " they need time to gel..." Hills tactics from now on will make or break him with these new players in the side imho....
Lol your not implying that Keith Hill needs to improve his management? And you don't believe this is a derogatory comment?
Good players + good manager = top half finish. Good players + good manager - loss of players in January = bottom half finish.
