That is so bloody shameful it is untrue. If we'd gone down last year, fighting until the last minute on the last day when all around us were doing the same, I would have felt much better. Instead, this year, to underline how abysmal our efforts have been - a meagre 45 points from 46 games would have been enough. The truth is though, if we had made 45 points, nothing would change. We'd just be a year away from another relegation battle. The extra irony this year of course is that for all the muppets and clowns we've had managing us, the man who took us down is the only manager to take us to the top flight, and the day we got relegated was the anniversary of that achievement. The club really has to get a grip of itself now. Off the pitch as well as on. It needs a proper ****ing sorting out. I don't buy the stuff about us being a bigger fish in a smaller pond. The teams we will face next year will show us the basic fundamentals that we have been lacking this year - such as how to play 90 minutes with commitment, passion, discipline, desire and positive attitude. If we carry on with the mentality of this season we will have no easy pickings next year. There's no good way to get relegated - but we can't claim that we threw everything at it or that our players broke their hearts, or that people ran their blood to water - this is a genuinely shameful version of Barnsley Football Club, on and off the field. Not bloody good enough.
Off the field we are in the 1980's I cannot believe what the supporters club put up with , read this board today to see example - home fan wants drink , refused entance at clique bar ? why ?
Read that post - plain and simple in my eyes: Barnsley FC has the business model of a charity and not a commercial enterprise. The club fails to treat supporters as customers or clients, and relies on tribalism and tradition to stop people going down the road. In South Yorkshire we have more competitions for young supporters than anywhere else. Norwich, by comparison, are the only game in town if you live out that way. Compare the way we handle our business though - the professionalism of Norwich at all levels of dealing with their fans outstrips ours and makes us look cheap, old fashioned, out-dated, and undesirable. Ironic. Who should be working harder to attract new fans and investment? The club is a right ****ing mess, and it has been for a long time, papering over cracks. And you're absolutely right, off the pitch it's like a trip into 1980s. Compared to every corporate experience that I've had away from Oakwell, ours is easily the least professional or convincing.
I agree entirely. The whole club (board and playing staff) from the top down should be asking themselves some searching questions now that this pathetic season has finally finished. Some of our players should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves but I doubt they will give our relegation a second thought.
Great post. Very well put. About time other people woke up and smelt the coffee. Don't worry we're in safe hands with Ben - he bought the fans a pint once you know!
every team in the league can pin point moments in a season, home v's an awful donny, by far the worst team i saw and the "no fight no passion" v's leeds is 5pts add the last minute loss v's bournemouth would have seen us safe. end of the day we are down and deservedly so, we've been poor most of the season no doubt come December we'll be mid table and after a new manager
Err if O'Grady had scored against Donny we would still be relegated unless Derbies really are 6 pointers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I said months ago 45 points will do it, not that this makes me feel any better. As if Brum survived on 44 points as well!!
