But the good news is that our most regular defender could play in midfield....

Or failing that theres always nicky feckin wroe.

Promotion contenders? not fecking likely. The board and management appear to have given up completly

    I prefer the term realistic

Up until 2 days ago Jacob burns was the first name on andy ritchie's teamsheet and now he has sent him out on trial as we approach one of the biggest games of the season so far. His reasoning for this is that he has to do what's best for Jacob. What about what is best for Barnsley FC and the supporters that want something better for the club?

He claims that Hassell can step in. That's all well and good but he never ever gets picked in midfield which quite clearly shows that he is not as good in midfield as Jacob burns or he would have been picked over him at least once in the last 30+ games.

The other teams around us are strengthening their squads whilst we are weakening ours, its barmy.

    In your opinion!!

You dont know as none of us do what replacements may be lined up.

They have done well this season ie the Manager at Identifying players and the board at supporting the manager.

    Is it being realistic though?

Just think about how many rants you've had on here in the last few months. I'm not being unfair on you when I say that there's been dozens, am I? You certainly seem to have gone off on one a lot. I'm sure you thought you were being realistic with each and every one of those complaints, yet here we are, 13 games to go and still in 6th place, 5 points clear of our nearest rivals and with a game in hand on a few teams around us. We've got every chance of making the play-offs, while automatic promotion is definitely not out of the question. So, are you actually being realistic, or unduly negative?

but tykeman who's fault is it that none of us know?

Warnock for example is always on the radio. He is anoying i'll admit that but he raises the profile of their club and generates interest and optimism from their supporters. And I dont just mean this season because they're doing well, it is the same every year, he always gets on the radio and speculates which generates a buzz and makes people aware of them and confident.

Barnsley on the other hand (and rotherham) practically never do this. We play down transfer talks or just simply refuse to comment on them and we only ever seem to be on the radio for negative things. We are a forgotten club because all the casual fans or football fans in the area with no club never hear anything positive coming out of oakwell (or millmoor) and the decline in attendance coupled with increased attendance of young people at hillsbrough and bumhole lane shows this.

I think that a big change in PR policy is needed if we are to ever go anywhere and get out of the rut that we have been in for so long. If we are looking at a player or two then get on the radio and tell them, no names have to be mentioned but at least it shows us in a positive light for once. Drop ticket prices for a game and get on the radio and tell everyone about it. Kids get in free this weekend apparently but I bet not many people know about it because we dont make a song and dance about it like other clubs do.

I probably sound really negative but it is because I can see potential in Barnsley (being a fan) and can see where we are going wrong with the simple things off the pitch. If these simple PR moves were used then who knows what could happen. We could see a big rise in attendance, extra fans for a big push to the end of the season and an optimism not seen for a long time. I just fear that at the moment we seem happy to let this great chance pass us by and the only reason for this seems to be that we are 'over achieving'.

But Jay you have been negative just as much as anyone else

The only difference is that you throw in 50 witty posts a day about dry loving so they arent noticed as much. You have complained about ticket prices, about the lack of cover, about letting burns go yet you see me as negative and you as what exactly?

So for example you make one post about ticket prices and I make 5. Does that make me more negative than you or just more vocal about the same opinion?

Iwelumo will pillock Reid and Carbon

given Ritchie's strategy of 'let them win the header and pick up the pieces afterwards', he absolutely needs Hassell in the back 4 as he reads the game better than anyone else.

more fool him if he pisses about with who plays where. and what does that say to Brian Howard?

    The thing is

I don't let the negative aspects define how I view the team's chances or the club. I also see the positives and comment on them as I see them. I don't think we should release Burns, but that doesn't mean I think it's all going to go crumbling to the ground. I wasn't impressed with the Donny result, but one loss doesn't define a season. If the board/manager make decisions that I don't agree with I will comment on them for this is a discussion forum for Barnsley football club. However, despite my gripes, I can see that this season has been a vast improvement on what we've had to put up with for the last few years. Even though things aren't perfect I can see that the performance of the team is much, much better. I can't see the point of looking for the faults and running with them to the point where you lose sight of the fact that we're a team doing well with a very realistic chance of promotion.

When Ritchie was asked about the midfield

He did mention Howard first as the obvious replacement.

    alright then...

Hassel in the middle of the back with Kay, Ozzie at RB, Hecky at LB, Reid move forward. Howard in for McPhail, McParland in for Shuker, Devaney switch to the right, Wright in for Richards, Nads for Hayes, Flinders in. Carbon to Beckets.. McPhail can carry the drinks.

    'seasy

maybe we need a replacement for Burns.
