So, who else was pleased with the FA Cup result today?

Normally I would have loved to see a lower division team to lift the trophy, as I'm always supporting the underdogs in pretty much every competition, but today I really wanted Portsmouth to win. Cardiff aren't really a small club and Portsmouth are hardly that big either, but even if Cardiff had played Man United, I probably would have wanted Man United to win, as much as it hurts to say that.

Anyway, unlike most other people here, I don't really care whether it's an English or a Welsh club that wins, but if Cardiff had won the FA Cup, I would have spent the rest of my life thinking that it could have been us instead of them. Of course with a little bit of extra luck we could have been there indeed, but I think we already spent all our luck against Liverpool, and in my opinion our semi-final result against Cardiff wasn't that unfair either. (at least it didn't look like we were "hammering" them from where I was watching the game!) We were probably a bit unlucky that day, but hey, that's football. :)

Also, I have a Welsh friend who's a Cardiff fan... it was already bad enough when they beat us, so listening to him gloat about the FA Cup victory for the next couple of years would have been too much. :D

Anyway, congratulations for both teams and for Barnsley as well of course, we should be proud of this season as we made the FA Cup a bit more exciting than it has been for a very long time.

Well said. That's exactly how I feel about it.

We have a very good friend who armchair supports Cardiff, and her teenage son is a Season Ticket holder.

They texted congratulations after the Liverpool game, and I genuinely believe them when they said that they wanted us to beat Chelsea. For some reason I think they feel I am ungracious in defeat in not being able to wish them luck today - it would have been disingenuous, so why do it, I thought.

It wasn't malice against them or even Cardiff, it was just the pure and simple fact that only a Portsmouth win would stop me kicking myself for the rest of my days - 'it could have been us', 'it should have been us' etc. etc.

It's only been a few hours and already I feel ten times better. I hadn't even managed to bask in the glory of reaching the Semi Final before today, as I felt so bitter - childish I know, but avid football fans usually are. Now the team that put us out are out too it's so much easier to look on the cup run fondly.

I feel bad that my friends are gutted, and I don't know how they will pick themselves up - losing the final must be worse than the semi, and there's no fix to it - Portsmouth can't be stopped from lifting the cup - they've already done it!
