Hiya all, I wonder if you could all help me to try to help the club to help you.

    Hyperthetical question for you.

If we had a social club for the fans at the ground that was say in a temporary building (Portable cabin type).

How many people do you think would use it on and off match days, also how many people would be prepared to become members and pay a subscription each year, also how much would you consider a fair membership fee to be?

There is a method to my madness, but I need some help to formulate a cunning plan.Do you feel that something like this could be self funding or in conjunction with sponsors could be partially or fully funded to give the fans somewhere to call their own outside of the stadium.

Any comments will be gratefully accepted and will help me to pull this plan together.

    Thanks for the help

    BT

Don't see why it shouldn't be a success mate, Donny have the same sort of thing and it makes a profit - which goes to fund their youth team. Why not have a word with somebody there?

For myself, I'd certainly support it and would be willing to pay say a tenner a year membership.

Great idea, if you're ever in Newcastle call into the Shearer bar at St James Park it's absolutely brilliant a top place. Something similar would go down a treat.

    In a portakabin, probably not.

Would probably only get used on Matchdays and for reserve matches, although you might get a small crowd for AFC barnsley matches / bbs football team matches.

With the Mount being just down the road I don't think you would draw too big a crowd ona daily basis, particularly with a portakabin as premises.

Shearer bar is great, but that takes serious investment.

you would also certainly get big crowds when Barnsley were away on the telly, you might even convince the club to get a live feed back the bar for normal away matches. I don't know how feasible it is but it's been done before if it's on BFC club premises.

You would also proabably get a decent crowd for other football related shenigans with a sky licence.

You've probably had the same thoughts, and I don't want to be teaching you to suck eggs, but personally I would pay £10 per year to join, but would only use it on match days. you would want the club book makers in there as well.

Would be a great idea to have a proper social club in fact I cannot believe the STUPIDITY of the club for allowing the situation to continue without one.

I would pay an annual fee if such a club were properly provide with adequate facilities and I would use other than Matchdays too as to be quite honest my local, The Mount, is ****.

Beer would have to be good though with some proper hand pulled stuff - not the overpriced pish they serve in the east stand at present and food served (if only simple stuff like sarnies & pie & peas etc)

No smoking either (or at worst properly segregated / ventilated) to make it suitable for families.

As I understand though the licence for the social club is still held by the last licencee who is the present landlord at The Mount...and there lies a bit of a sticking point..

The club should have rebuilt a social club

but would rather put pictures up in the Executive Suite as people in there spend more upfront

It's crazy that teh stand that holds the most people likely to have a sup has no bar...and the club have made no attemot to either get a bar in or get a social club built...ffs even Donny Rovers have got one

    out of touch and amateurish?

    that can't be right matey

If he had a licence at the mount, he can't hold a licence for more than one venue, therefore there is no licence for the social club. Also, the licencee for a sports & social club would probably the same person who currently holds it for the bars and executive suite.
So there's no legal block on a social club, probably just financial. However, if the club went to any brewery, they would probably pump in thousands to get there products in the social club.
Depends if they club have a tie with John Smiths.

There's something similar at Wombwell Parish Hall

The Landlord at the Alma had the licence on some kind of outsourcing arrangment or someat.

Like the venue doesn't have a licence itself, but is allowed to operate it remotely against his own licence.

Reduces costs and all that, particularly for venues which are infrequently used.

    Well

Firstly his missus is the actual licence holder at the Mount.

Secondly I am only saying wha t they have told me.

They did have the licence for the old social club and have kept paying the annual fee? to keep hold of it.

Apparantly a social club was planned for the ponte to replace the old but the club and the licencee could not come to an agreement regarding wages/ costs etc.

I can only conclude that is why no beer is sold the the ponte at present (or is it?) East stand must have a seperate licence?

    So it would make sense

That the Barnsley Football Club social club, only being used once a fortnight during the Winter months was on an occasional licence operated by the Mount.

Would there be any trouble if the occassional licence was still held by the Mount and the footy club wanted a full licence or would they have to buy the Mount out.

    i'm sure

it would simply be a case of a straight transfer back to the football club.

    Hmmm

well, when the social club was demolished, he didn't have the mount?
Very odd. I've never heard of a situation like this before. Besides, from August 3rd it all changes so he/she/they won't have it after that anyway.

    RE: Hmmm

Dont think they had the mount when the social club was demoilished. Must have got it afterwards.

Was alcohol for sale in the ponte last season? if not I think my tale wont be too far from the truth.

As you say maybe things will change this year and at least we may see a bar in the ponte closely followed by a social club.

BTW Do you still have the Washington? or was that part of your bad year you eluded toward? used to go in there every weekend a few years ago.
