My personal opinion is that the likes of Facebook and Twitter are making this world we live in, a crazy place. Each to their own choice, but these people appear to be living their lives on a social media platform and meddling in other people's business. Surely there are better things to do? You could argue the BBS is a social platform, but I originally started to use this for info on the REDS, but it has turned into (mostly) a chit-chat room. Just my opinion of course.............
I've never done the Twitter thing and you need friends for facebook not bad for young uns I guess but not for me.
I managed the first 40 years of my life without either a mobile phone or the Internet, life was a lot simpler and I had a damn site more privacy in those days. I sometimes wonder if it would be a good idea to go back to that.
Whilst accounts can be fake, anonymous or non-verified, then your always going to get crazies hiding behind a keyboard causing mischief. At the moment most people think they're untouchable and untraceable. But as was seen after the summer riots, you can be traced and even sent down for stiring trouble on social media. We had someone dismissed at work for sticking something on twitter they shouldn't have. It's going to take some re-educating of some folk.
Joined twitter out of curosity, can't get my head round it, what's it all about, it's just people writing rubbish about rubbish, it holds no interest at all for me, very puzzling, but at the same time frightening for the way people use it and seem to take as gospel what's posted and as we have found to our cost, the way something can escalate and take a life of it's own without any foundation whatsoever.
twitter can be god if you have a specific interest in something and want information in an up to date fashion. The rest of it is tittle tattle.
As someone who reluctantly joined Facebook in it's early days, mainly because my friends kept inviting me, I'm beginning to find it more of a nuisance than owt else. I used to think it was decent; you could share pictures, events, jokes etc with your friends without paying daft charges on your mobile phone. It was extremely private and you couldn't look at anyone's profile without permission. However, slowly but surely Facebook has changed and the privacy settings are all over the shop now. I've never bothered with Twitter personally, but due to my profession I know how it works and why it's used. I think the bigger problem isn't social networking sites, it's actually the internet. I think the internet is great, and anytime I have a question/problem I get straight onto the internet and research the solution. When buying anything, I will research customer reviews, other options and anything related. However, in the times in between I aimlessly consume vast quantities of media whilst routinely checking the same 5/6 websites that I have an interest in. After visiting the sites (in the space of about 5 minutes), I then start again and do the same! Apparently our generation consumers something like 2000% more media per day than in the 1950s. No wonder we're all stressed and struggling to find enjoyment in everyday life. Instead of doing that I should get off my arse and make the most of my time on this planet, and I made a decision about 12 months ago to do that. Unfortunately the majority of others haven't done that, and as a result it's hard to persuade other people to do social activities regularly. I'm fine with that, as I exercise, play guitar and go out with mates - but what will future generations be like? I'm beginning to think that these socially inept keyboard warriors will slowly become the norm in real life, and people with personality will become overbearing. Your personality will be reflected online, and not in your actions. Scary thought?
Social networking sites have their uses Unfortunately, 95% of Twitter users seem to follow celebrities and tell the world what they had for their tea. There definitely needs to be more warnings regarding author accountability because I don't think numpties realise that their tweets are subject to libel laws just like any other published word. But for example the other day I wanted to know whether the T20 would be rained off before going down to the ground. I typed "adelaide oval" into Twitter and hey presto, loads of folk saying they were down at the ground and it was all on. This is the (one?) benefit of Twitter. Ask it a question and potentially it'll give you the most up-to-the-minute answer on the net. I reckon Facebook is okay for keeping in contact with folk and sharing photos. Apart from that, I can't see the point in all the data gathering apps, games, quizzes. "What type of vegetable are you? I am: A turnip" You didn't need to answer the quiz to show that. Girls, write "I'm going on holiday to Mexico for three weeks in January" on your status. It'll confuse the guys. No it won't you simpletons.
People with too much time and nothing to do They should get a life Oh s**t I just realised I'm one of them, I'm on here........
Re: People with too much time and nothing to do Facebook in particular is a good, free media forum to share info and common interests. I set up the Penistone Reds page on Facebook (believe is still there) and Twitter and YouTube channels to share the information folk may want to know at any time. Removes need to call or text if it is all there
Re: People with too much time and nothing to do this bbs board should be banned immediately and you should all be forced to pay a large weekly fee to follow my postings on my dedicated website. I could be the new Kim Jong il and lets face it ..... it would better than most of the soporific rubbish you read on here hope this helps
Even an American on a social networking site is getting involved now....... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...d-to-cries-for-imprisonment-for-barnsley-fans
