Don't let me down LJ, cos I don't want to go home feeling as crap and dischuffed as my last trip. You reds, etc .......
Hoping the bloke has took some of the criticism on board and that we see the ball move quicker from back to front.
And move quicker it left to right. We seem to get stuck in these little triangles on one side of the pitch instead of quickly switching the play to stretch the opposition. Wonder if we'll see Smith starting up front today - hope so.
He's not suggested for a minute that we are amazing and doing brilliantly. He said in his last interview that we are a 'work in progress' so of course he's working on playing faster, more penetrative football But it's not going to happen overnight. But what needs to happen is we need to see performances like v Everton and Swindon on a more regular basis and those like Rochdale on a less regular basis.
All teams are a work in progress, managers are always looking to improve their lot, and use it as a cliched excuse/buying time etc.
He isn't though because that's not his approach. His preferred style is slow "build up" play and that's how he will continue while trying to fob people off claiming its modern or technical or whatever meaningless word suits at the time.
That's how I saw us play against Swindon. But in vast parts of other games it has been too slow But for me as long as we're playing winning football that's all that matters. If others only want to see us play entertaining football that's fine, that's their opinion. But for me it's all about winning. If results become more consistent, so will performances imo
But we're not. If we were winning the majority of our games there would be little discussion about our style of play. It's because we're not that there is. I don't expect us to win the majority of our games, that's not what I'm saying, I think the squad is too young and too inexperienced for that level of consistency. Hopefully, if we keep them together, that will come in the future. But at the moment we're failing to win the majority of our games (5 from 8 we haven't won) and the football is boring for the most part too (with some exceptions). So I can appreciate where people are coming from.
I meant in a more general term. If we win the next 3 but play averagely that's obviously better than winning 2 and losing 1 and playing really well in all of them I'm sure that if results come more consistently fans will stop complaining about the style of football even if it doesn't change
You're probably right as winning is the be all and end all when it occurs. But I've said for years (and taken some derision for it) I find Barcelona boring to watch, I prefer to watch teams getting it forward a bit quicker. Each to their own I suppose.
If you play well you will win more than you lose if you pox a win or two while being poor in the end you'll lose more than you win.
Football is a sport, not an entertainment, It was designed for players of, not the watcher Thats why it falls on its ar5e . It cannot live up to what it is not. You've fallen for ...the beautiful game.. b0ll0ck. An idea by a marketing company.. Just a big sell
Just back. I went, and pleased to say I was reasonably well entertained. Still not the finished article by far but made Gillingham look ordinary and had to compete against an inept showman of a ref and bald git of a lino too. Quite pleased, glad I chose to go. Smith well-deserved MOTM, closely followed by Harris and Watkins. Wabara, Mawson, Nyatanga and Hourihane decent too. Only question mark for me was Winnall alone up top, but hey, if he can score when playing very average then who am I to complain. You reds
