He's surprised a League two side 'hesitate in possesion' and would like to cancel his contract. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/notts_county/8270272.stm
Can a player just walk away from a contract? If a club released a player before the end of his contract they would have to compensate him - surely the same principle applies if it's the other way round
RE: Can a player just walk away from a contract? it certainly makes a mockery of the transfer window, in fact there are two very simple ways around the transfer window: 1 - player terminates contract and becomes free agent - sol campbell 2 - club "loans" player with pre-arranged transfer for next window - sean st ledger both shouldn't really be allowed to be honest
yeah but it wont help campbell You have to be a free agent when the window closes in order to be allowed to sign for another club before the window reopens. Because he was under contract to notts county when the window closed he can't sign for another club until january. he'd have been better off staying and trying to get a loan deal sorted somewhere because now he has to have 3 months out of the game
RE: yeah but it wont help campbell ah if thats the rule fair dos then, on the radio today they seemed under the impression he could resume playing for another club immediately
RE: Can a player just walk away from a contract? The thing is though, he could have stayed until December then put in a transfer request and moved on in January with Notts County receiving a transfer fee. I know it's an exceptional situation with a Premiership standard player walking out on a Fourth Division club for whom money is no object but it just shows the strength of player power
I might be wrong and normally am but I seem to remember another player who had signed a one month contract with a club and had it terminated which meant he essentially couldn't get a job for the next 4 months. I believe he challenged it in court or at least threatened to so the rule may have been changed
