We brought in a director of football ie. someone with knowledge of the game and good links to other players and managers Someone who could work part time at the club advise Ritchie on who is available in the transfer market and advise Ritchie on other things such as tactics This would leave Shep to do what he does best - run the financial side of things And This would allow Ritchie to carry on motivating the team and building the team spirit - something that Ritchie is obviously good at
Could you name one instance in English football where having a "Director of Football" brought in whilst a manager is in place, has worked successfully? Just out of interest, I can't think of one, thats' all.
I nearly posted summat similar myself. Somebody to handle the high level stuff but with input from the manager. Identifying and bringing in new players, coaching etc. But leave the motivation and match tactics to Ritchie. But it very rarely works. It just undermines the manager, and drives them out of the club.
If..................... We can't find a solution to this problem which has now been highlighted by shep, then yes, a new manager But I would explore other avenues before sacking Ritchie, because Ritchie has alot of very good atributes I like Ritchie, but if he will not bring other players in when it is obvious to the fans and the directors of the club that we need more players, then yes he must go Its a very sad situation
RE: If..................... Still not convinced Ritchie doesn't want to bring players to the club. I think he won't bring just any player to the club. There's a difference.
I agree If we had signed Bates , Kazim Richards and other players from the reserves of other clubs at the start of the season the fans on here would have gone mental.</p>
RE: If.....................that argument has now gone Shep has said openly what the callibre of the players are - and to anybody that knows owt abart football - they are better than what we have got
For that to work, the manager has to be receptive to other peoples input and with all due respect, AR's history doesn't suggest that he is.
Erm ... ... Chelsea? I think Frankie Boy has done some decent work there - but they were already successful, so he doesn't count. I'd tend to agree with you ... most clubs who put a Director of footy in place don't define the roles well enough, people step on each others toes & things go tits up. A decent post from Young Nudger though. I'm a bit upset he didn't mention TARN though.
RE: If.....................that argument has now gone Are they though? Most of the names bandied about have been players who are young and virtually untried. Hardly the 'experience' people have been crying out for. Kazim-Richards might be different, but it's well known that he's a prima-donna whose teddy goes out of the cot the second he doesn't get his own way. Maybe AR didn't fancy taking that kind of gamble?
It's the manager's job to manage. Not the Chairman, the board, the players or a director of football. If the board don't like the way a manager does things, they should send him packing. If they're not prepared to do that, they should either shut up or be seen to be supporting him.
The thing is..............us on here do not know much about football We are not professionals...........Andy Ritchie hopefully is But as fans, and directors we can see problems We then hope that the manager go'e out and solves the problem But he hasen't - so there's something wrong Now me and a few more have been saying we need players such as Shipperley Its players such as Shipperley - it may not be Shipperley himself - but players of that quality and experience Ritchie is right when he mentions that the players talked about were young guys I for one would have complained about an untried recruit Unfortunatly we have now seen what these young guys can do
RE: The thing is..............us on here do not know much about football We've seen what one of them can do, and one wonder goal doesn't make a career.
make sense but it will never happen! I think AR like Paul hart is a good coach but perhaps not management material..... Hart was tatically sound but couldn't motivate them or handle PR.... AR can motivate them but is tactically inept!
