Yesterday apart we have playing some stonking football this season and only naievity from the manager and a young squad has prevented us earning more points. The majority of people I talk are enjoying watching Barnsley for the first time in ages [since the similar Bassett era]. All this set of players is crying out for is an experienced head at the front and at the back. Far from being disloyal to said bunch of players, these signings would harness the battling qualities of the squad and ensure they weren't wasting their obvious efforts week in, week out. To the people on this board: lay off the players, they are doing us proud. To whoever is stalling on signings: get yer finger art!
Agree 100% - Good post. Didn't quite agree with the manager's "We lacked desire and we didn't work hard enough". Should have added that we haven't enough good players on the books to give some of the lads a rest after 3 matches in 8 days.
Nonsense..we are losing/dropping points too much...sentiment is for losers. we have had the best from the current squad, now its time to be ruthless and move on.Granted the football is pleasing on the eye...THE TABLE IS NOT.As I say this game has no time for sentimentality.
I think you are missing a point Dragon.... the current squad of players are young, and for the most part have never played at this level. they need time to adjust, but you are correct in saying that we do not have that time to give them. we do not necessarily have to get rid of the likes of Hayes, Devaney, Austin, Richards as they may well become players worthy or this level in the next few years - but they NEED some assistance to develop. perhaps the answer is to get rid of some of the fringe players in the squad (McParland, Willaims, Wright, Healy etc) and push the boat out to pay the wages of more experienced replacements for the first team (even on loan). Some of the current crop NEED dropping now, but simply saying "they are *****" shows the short-sightedness of someone that doesn't watch them (not a dig, I understand you live some distance away!). and before the response 'there is no money available' comes back, I'm pretty certain there is, like many others here
someone who does not watch them...... well this "someone who does not watch them" has been a season ticket holder of some 10 years or so , and this "someone who does not watch them" gets to every home match apart from the odd mid weeker, also this "someone who does not watch them " gets to a good amount of away games too. Therefore this "someone who does not watch them" has a good idea of how the first team plays.
like i said, no insult intended didn't realise you were getting up for so many games. in that case I'd hope you'd be able to offer something slightly more constructive. do you honestly think we need to get rid of half the squad that got us promoted? (inferred from the majority of your posts)
well...simply..yes I do what cannot speak cannot lie......look at the table and the goals against, we MUST improve in various areas...or drop.It is as stark as that.and as i have said in another post sentimentality is for losers. We need to stay up..the squad as it is cannot do that.Perhaps 2 or 3 experienced pros can turn it around and give the development time to some of our existing players, but we cannot wait 3 or 4 years for them to develop... I think the current season does not last quite that long
RE: well...simply..yes I do I think essentially we're singing from the same hymm sheet - I agree we need to strengthen and I agree that some of the squad players look some way short in terms of quality. However, I also believe that it is a young squad and we'd be making a mistake in just disregarding completely the players that got us promoted, only to find them come back and haunt us in a year or two. Hayes, for example, needs competition for his place and needs a spell on the bench (or even out on loan), but I don't doubt he has plenty of ability and will have a successful career. The 'short-sightedness' i describe comes from one-line statements like 'get rid of Hayes he's *****' that appears on here on a regular basis...
RE: well...simply..yes I do well yes it seems that we are...but from slightly differing angles.Sorry to have snapped back.
