Another limp defeat today but at least we decided to vary it up this time, going behind and staying behind rather than going a goal up and throwing the game away. To depress myself, I decided to look up our points gained when conceding first vs points dropped after scoring first since our play off campaign under Ismael, where we showed real grit to turn games around and often went looking for another if we went a goal up. Since the start of 21/22, we've gained 8 points after conceding first in games. Our only win after conceding first in that time was vs Derby under Joseph Laumann. That means we've failed to win a single game in the nearly 2 years since then after conceding first. By contrast, we've managed to drop 31 points after scoring first. True, under Duff if we went ahead we'd often go hunting for more and usually got them. We rarely showed grit when conceding first though. So onto this season. Its early days but on the evidence thus far, as demonstrated perfectly in the last 8 days, we've now got a team and manager that not only don't know how to turn things around when conceding first, but can't defend a lead either if the other team doesn't down tools (Port Vale). I don't know what we can do about this. Signing someone with experience and grit would be nice but we all know that's not going to happen because our CEO and shareholders don't learn from their mistakes. Happy Saturday all.
