To be fair, overall, they were very complementary of us, saying things like our style of football will 'grace the Championship' and that we play the game the right way etc. However, a couple of things that p!ssed me off: 1) They spent most of extra time bleating on about how Swansea would be disadvantaged in a penalty shootout because of their substitutions. Well a) that's their decision and their own fault and b) I think they'll find that Trundle takes nearly all their penalties - and he was on the pitch. No mention of the fact that our MAIN taker was off the pitch, as was our second most likely taker in Nardiello. Howard may have fancied one too. 2) They had to ruin their complements of us at the end by saying "Well that's three 'unfashionable' clubs that have been promoted from League One this season, Southend, Colchester and Barnsley." As opposed to who like? Donchuffingcaster? Swansea? Brentford? Huddersfield? Oldham? Bristol City? We're more 'fashionable' than most other teams in League One last season. Anyroad, overall they were fairly good to us, even Birtles. Just thought I'd say having just watched it for first time since the day as some folk have commented on it before. Time for bed ff
I just had exactly the same observations. The "Well that's three 'unfashionable' clubs that have been promoted from League One this season, Southend, Colchester and Barnsley." thing really did piss me off. What exactly do we have to do to be accepted at a level that we have spent most of our history at, and excluding these last 5 seasons, the preceding quarter century??? Don't think he would have said it if it had been Swansea, Huddersfield or Brentford, and I don't honestly know what makes us more like Southend and Colchester as opposed to Swansea (always been a basement club in a run down ground until last year's move/promotion - historic poor support), Huddersfield (similar club to Barnsley, slightly better attendances, spends most of its time in third tier) and Brentford (smaller club, poorer ground/set up, lower attendences than Barnsley, seldom plays above third tier). I guess we have to just accept that only WE will ever like US!!!
RE: I just had exactly the same observations. Summat to do with having coal mines... or summat like that (blagger) (NOOO) (bummers)
RE: I just had exactly the same observations. Let's face it - it will never change. Our coverage on the first day of the prem contained Barnsley main and terraced houses. Maybe every report on a London club should contain a pearly king and queen and a pie and mash shop - see how they like it!ff
Very funny I think crap grounds and crap nasty towns qualify them ff My cousin lives in Colchester and can verify that for me :d And of course they've got little footballing history!
Eh? I was trying to explain the differing reasons why they call our 3 teams unfashionable. It wasn't me who compared them! Barnsley's seen as unfashionable as it's a coal mining town with all the terraced housing and that, whereas with the other two I believe it's as they're not traditional footballing hotbeds - hence their low support and poor stadia.
I know I know Barnsley butt of cheap comedians jokes from time immemorial Shame Sky's modern cutting edge reportage allus stoops so low and has such a short memory... I remember Barnsley being everyone second favorite team... other than the scousers of course Course our 'fashionista' neighbours have fabulous housing nairy a terrace in sight... oops... now what was it I've seen surrounding Hillsbillyboro, Bumhole Lane and Smelland Rd?
re 1 - I keep shouting at the tv 2 if not 3 of ours were off. Not that I've watched it more than once of course...... Hubby's stopped telling me to calm down and given me up as a lost cause!
