Basically saying that the latest US school massacre wouldn't have happened if everyone else had been carrying guns "to defend themselves". No hope.
maybe it wouldnt have? maybe we all need to have guns on us over here. The police can protect us we needt o arm ourselves?
A classic Bill Hicks routine: "Like, I was over in England. You ever been to England, anyone, been to England? No one has handguns in England, not even the cops. True or false? True. Now-in England last year, they had fourteen deaths from handguns. FFFFFourteen. Now-the United States, and I think you know how we feel about handguns-woooo, I'm getting a warm tingly feeling just saying the fecking word, to be honest with you. I swear to you, I am hard. Twenty-three thousand deaths from handguns. Now let's go through those numbers again, because they're a little baffling at first glance. England, where no one has guns, fffffffourteen deaths. United States, and I think you know how we feel about guns-woooo, I'm getting a stiffy-twenty-three thousand deaths from handguns. But there's no connection, and you'd be a fool and a Communist to make one. There's no connection between having a gun and shooting someone with it, and not having a gun and not shooting someone. There have been studies made and there is no connection at all there." Many a true word said in jest, eh?
Safer... If any Tom, Dick or Harry could walk into a gunshop and, with virtually no questions asked, buy a gun? Yep, that'd make me feel so much safer. Compare the gun crime statistics between us and America and tell me that access to firearms prevents deaths from firearms...
The criminals aren't already tooled up... But they soon would be if they thought whoever they were trying to rob also had a gun...
Come on, think about what you're saying. What use is your gun as someone shoots you from behind... just cos they feel like it or don't like the way you walk?
So? It's not the criminals I'm worried about. It's the people who poison a dog 'cos it barks too much, or glass a person 'cos they looked at their lass, or get a gang together 'cos they weren't allowed in a pub, or maybe they just don't like the colour of your skin or the way you talk. Now give those people a gun.
Sorry mate... It's because I was quoting! This any better: "Like, I was over in England. There have been studies made and there is no connection at all there."
Keep handguns banned! I was merely asking the questions and making the points often made by the likes of american presenters on Talksport. I believe guns should remain banned and extra effort should be made to irradicate illegal weapons. I do not believe that it would be useful to arm the ordinary beat bobbies, indeed it would be foolish!
The worrying thing is some Americans actually believe that guns prevent other guns. The way people can just walk into a shop and buy a gun is worrying. I watched Bowling For Columbine and Michael Moore actually goes to this bank where they're offering a free shotgun if you open an account with them!!! What happened to free piggy-banks and sports bags you got from the Midland Bank ffs?!!!
Apparently they've recently passed legislation in West Virginia where you can only buy one gun per month. Only? Not surprisingly, this move had been strongly opposed. I mean, only 12 guns per year? What about birthdays and that? if they live to see one...
