Why, if we were waiting to see if we gained promotion before offering any contracts, was Chris Shuker offered one two weeks before that play off final?

Did Cardiff come in for him...?

I heard he was quoted as saying "The next time I'm in Cardiff I'll be signing for them" at the player of the year dinner.

    Perhaps..

... with it being the end of the season proper, the club was obliged to offer contracts at that stage.

To not do so would leave the players open to other offers that they might take - and more importantly might have damaged the club's ability to succeed at the playoffs.

Just conjecture of course, but when your season goes on for 2 weeks longer than everybody else's, I would imagine it's a difficult balancing act.
