It's almost December and there are lots of colds and rasping coughs around the office. Some people are sick and quite rightly take some time off work. However, so many of them feel obliged to come back to work say after a couple of days, even though they are clearly still ill and then continue to spread their illness to everyone else. Yes, you've guessed it, I'm not out tonight because I'm sitting here with a cold and a rasping cough, all because the bloke sitting next to me came back too early from his illness.
I brought this up at work not long back. There have been people turning into work who should clearly stay at home. Not only is it bad for the clients having to listen to the coughing and spluttering, it also helps spread it through the staff.
who's fault is that though? take my work for example, if you have more than ten days off in a year or have 3 seperate occasions of illness then you lose your bonus (250-400 pound). obviously that means that people come into work when they are sick because they cant afford to lose the money. On the other end of the scale they let some people take the piss. For example somebody went off 5 weeks ago with headache and hasnt been back since, apparently his headache developed into a chest infection which has hung around since october.
RE: who's fault is that though? It's all down to bad management. They pressure people not to have time off sick. We must have some of the worst managers in the world in the world. They treat everyone as if they are a skiver. :-| :-| (dribble) (puke) (doh)
In my previous job, my manager used to berate the contractors for coming in with colds as it spread it round everyone and he ended up with 3 or 4 off sick rather than 1.
yes - absolutely - my point entirely. If the management of this country behaved as sensibly as Eaststander's there might not be such a need for emergency flu jabs. Workers unite - stay at home and stop spreading disease!
