    Working class

    Middle class

    Upper class

What makes you what, I've been told I'm middle but I am far from it.

it's a shifting concept and a matter of sociological debate. Traditionally, indicators of the middle class are things like foreign holidays, two car families, home ownership, semi-professional and professional jobs... but of course times change and many manual jobs now (eg plumbers) earn more than non-manual white collar jobs

I'd argue that there's a big difference between upper and lower middle class. upper is more your private school paying, joint income 100k plus, large detached house sort of folk whereas the biggest sector is probably lower middle class, the 'squeezed middle'.

Try looking up the ABC system, this shows how advertisers target you

also, I know how you feel. As a teacher, I'm probably 'middle class' but certainly don't feel very wealthy! Culturally, however, that's a whole other issue

For me there's only two types of class...............

Those that have (or had) to work (to live) and

    those that didn't or don't

No matter what people may spout and how close you think you are to either end of the spectrum, people will claim to be middle, upper middle or whatever the in-vogue description is to try to 'better' themselves.

I'm sure there will be a million articles on the BBC website that will help clear up any confusion!

In my opinion if you have to work for a living and would sink pretty quickly without your salary then you're working class. I know I am and I'd never claim to be anything else.
