Sorry for bringing it up again, but it was a penalty on McCourt wasn't it?

I thought it was as blatant a foul as you can get. He just tripped him up. Or was I seeing things? Not that we would have scored it like, even if it had been given, but I thought it was the infamous 'stonewall'.

Bit of a crap match that we should have won. We were nowt to write home about like (a couple of McCourt runs aside), but we were the better side, created all the chances and missed a penalty. I must have seen hundreds of games just like that one down at Oakwell over the years. They don't brighten up your weekend like you hope a game will, but they're certainly nowt to get upset about.

A word of advice to our stadium announcer: If the bloke you're just about to name as motm makes his one big error of the game which results in the opposition getting their best chance of the game, wait a couple of minutes before making that announcement. It'll not be long before he pings one cross field, inch perfect to feet or slips past a couple of defenders. Then you can make the announcement and everyone will applaud. Even if they think someone else is more deserving, they'll understand why that player got it.

And, having seen the replay, still think it's a blatant penalty. I love the guy to bits and would rather watch five minutes of McCourt than five months of any other player. However, I think me & thee are in a minority of two because he dived for the penalty, was a passenger during the game, a luxury player we can't afford to play, he doesn't track back and is a liability.
Hope everything went well for you all last night.

You can count me in too. Very special player who we are priveleged to have (although not for long I fear) I honestly despair of my fellow supporters at times. Having said that, I did once witness one idiot screaming at King Ronnie for being 'lazy'.

looked nailed on to me, but we hardly get one pen never mind two and for me if the ref doesn't give it he has to book him, which for me suggests the ref bottled the penalty decision.
Regarding Paddy its always been the same at Oakwell, run about a lot and a lot will love you but for me its the flair players who turn games, its not like he's one of those who does nowt else all game so I don't get the stick he gets.

Just seen the replay now. Looks as nailed on a penalty as it did at the time. McCourt didn't have his best game yesterday, but he was the only thing worth watching. 3 fantastic runs and a number of superb cross field balls. If he hadn't been playing I hate to think how dull the game would have been. The only way we were going to score was from McCourt's magic. It should have happened too. Should have been a pen, and one of our forwards should have been running in when Turnbull spilled McCourt's shot.

Oh and, yes, thank you, the play was brilliant.

Went to the remembrance service in Durham cathedral this morning. The bugles inside that huge building were pretty spectacular. Hairs on the back of your neck going mental.

    Sounds like

You had a great time. Although I would imagine the weather last night on the way up and at today's service would've been totally different.

I love to see strikers tuned in to make the most of those type of chances.

No different to O'Grady injuring their number 7 by doing exactly the same thing though. Well it was different in that he didn't send McCourt flying into the advertising boards. I agree it could have been a penalty but if that had been a penalty then about another 10 similar challenges throughout the game should all have been fouls but weren't given.

OK Guys, sorry for going against public opinion here but it is a very hard one to call but to me the initial challenge was made right on the line so IMO no penalty correct call. But TBH we should have had a free kick on the edge of the box but IMO and possibly the refs also Paddy went down just a wee bit easily, like he was looking for the penalty. And the call went against him. All opinions though and the ref had to make his instantly without slo mo.
Hard to take but had we scored our 1st half penalty things could have been so different.

Don't agree with you, mate, but

If a foul is committed right on the line, then it's a penalty.

At the time I was unsure but switching the replay although Paddy goes down easily it's a definite foul. 5 minutes of Paddy is better than 5 years of O Brien.

Re: Don't agree with you, mate, but

One of those very grey areas mate and all down to the refs opinion, which now that I'm seeing it through my Barnsley Red tinted specs it was the most blatent penalty I've ever seen and that ref should be hung drawn and quartered.

Had that incident happened at Tannadice mate I'd be screaming blue murder why it wasn't given. Very difficult to see things when we are fans and very hard to take when it goes against us.

All comes back to not taking our chances earlier in the game making things like that incidental.

Not seen it on TV and my initial thought at the game was it was 50/50, thought he went down easily which made the refs mind up for him

Love Paddy, but that was a total dive, at a time when we were getting increasingly desperate. He was lucky not to be booked, IMHO.
