Has anybody seen about England's women's U19 team having to replay 18 seconds of football including starting with a penalty
England were given a penalty, which was taken, but the other England players were encroaching. The rules say that you must retake the penalty, but the referee gave an indirect free kick to Norway instead. So, the 18 seconds are what was left before the penalty. So they have to start again from the penalty, and play the outcome from there. Never seen anything like this at all before. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GQGSOvGXGss" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The encroachment rule has always been a puzzler for me, because unless the player who is encroaching, scores from the rebound, then no advantage is gained from it. That half a yard that the England player has made by stepping into the penalty area has made no difference on the outcome of the game. Another example of the referee wanting the limelight if you ask me.
This rule has been here since always. Just never enforced correctly. It's the same as a free kick. 10 yards away. That's why the circles are on the edge of the box. Ie 10 yards from the penalty spot. However encroaching can be done by defenders. If the keeper parried the ball and defender clears. He gained the advantage also. It needs to be enforced as do the mountian of fouls given away at corners. Strange why they have recalled the last 18 seconds mind. That would normally have been dealt with by giving the ref responsible a ticking off for missing it etc. (If that's what happened I haven't read or seen it) thus is partly where the issue is. Whilst refs need help they also need proper discipline themselves. (Example reduction in fees if they miss something they should clearly see).
Anyone remember Nick Colgan's heroics in the last minute at Stockport? Stockport awarded an injury-time penalty to draw the game. Feeney steps up to take it - Colgan saves. Referee rules that Colgan moved off his line before the kick was taken. Kick re-taken. Feeney steps up again and Colgan saves .... again. Again the referee rules that Colgan moved off his line before the kick was taken. Feeney steps up for a third time .... and scores. Game ended in a draw. I can't recall who the ref was, but wondered if he had us down for a draw on his coupon that weekend.
think they both played other teams that day and then turned up for the 18 seconds and the same player had to take the penalty nobody else so she must have been practicing penalties beforehand
