This morning, I turned up as normal for the Barnsley v Blackburn Rovers game but was stopped at the gate by Mark Burton and a security official. I was asked if I am a journalist, which I am not. I was asked if I write a report on accademy games, which I again denied as I do not consider that writing on this blog constitutes publishing. I was then told that in order to report on games, I would need to be authorised by the club. Since I do not have such authorisation I was not allowed to enter. Mark used my first name towards the end of the conversation. I do not use my first name and am not generally known by that name so I do not know the source of his information about my identity, although it would be obvious from my scribblings at games that I go by the nom de plume of Red Rain. I do not want to make a fuss about this, or take the thing any further. I will abide by the request not to attend games. I would, however, like to know why and who is behind it.
Stonger Together What a bunch of w&nkers. You should ask who's been investigating you and your activities and demand a full explanation.
there is, without doubt some right ******* work at Oakwell, jobsworths full of their own self importance I'd demand to know who is behind this and their reasoning Lets hope the new manager has a total clearout from top to bottom
My blood Don't you just feel part of the football club at the moment? A real pillar of the community. Hopefully they won't catch up with Mark Stokes 'unofficial' website otherwise we'll have no source of academy news *cough*
Nothing like being turned away by your own Football club eh? Absolute clowns the lot of them, like you say let's hope they have a mass clear out as soon as the new Manager arrives.
It'd be interesting to know how they knew who you were. Not know your name, but to approach you. Unless they approached everyone today.
We will see if It was Davey or the club that stoped fans going to training......very interesting..... Because he got the blame..JMV.
Does seem a bit intrusive for him to be using your name without first asking for it, although you know his name. I would have asked how that happened. It could be a simple explanation, but it is a bit weird. Even if they got your name off your profile how do they know it is you? Some questions have been asked at the very least. Its also a bit cr@p that the club won't let a supporter (I presume ST holder) in to watch the Academy, even if they do then give their honest opinion on a message board for other supporters to read. No reserve games and no Academy games. Poor.
Beware all you posters of the "just got back" messages Sounds like you'll be considered journalists and get banned from the stadium. Would be interesting to see what would happen if everyone took notepads and pens along to games. They'd soon rethink their policies when they found themselves turning away the whole crowd. Clearly if he was using your first name he knew exactly what you were posting. It sets an interesting precedent. In this age where we're all getting published on a daily basis, just what constitutes journalism? Is it the amateur/professional distinction? Is there a special hat you get given in journo school? This issue reaches out much farther than BFC of course. In a world where news travels faster on Twitter and blogs, there is real concern that what we now understand as journalism will cease to be. Oh, and yes, I do know the argument that a real journalist needs to verify all facts and a blogger doesn't.
Going to say the same - you won't be allowed to discuss any point of the game as it constitutes a 'match report'. A fine example of the club detaching itself from it's fans. Football is now ****.
So when someone goes to a game at Oakwell and comes back and writes a positive/negative article on what they've seen, like many do on here and most are a good read... Does that mean BFC will hunt your profile down on the BBS and find your proper name and ban you from turning up? It's the exact same in my eyes, rediculous. /poo
That's got to be one of the most pathetic things the club has done. No prizes for guessing whose paw prints are all over this one.
Somebody at the club is very paranoid. Who makes these decisions? Maybe it will change once the new manager comes in.
