Southampton sign a player for £1.6 million

    Southampton are an established Championship club

    but they still recognise the fact they need to sign players
    We are effectively a league 1 side + Mcindoe instead of Shuker and Togwell. Less Mcphail. Why arent we signing players, does Ritchie think Richards/Wright/Hayes will find it easier in the Championship? They couldnt score in the divison below

    We don't have £1.6m to throw at a player!

    Steve Bruce said on Sky earlier how difficult it was to bring in a striker, so did Paul Simpson (Preston), bringing in strikers at this time of the season is notoriously difficult without spending silly money.

    What are you on about - Southampton by history and set up are a Premiership side, we by history and set up are a championship side. They are looking to get promoted next season - we are looking for consolodation. No way can we afford to spend 1.6 million on a player that would just be suicidal.</p>

    And your other posts  - Luton have sold 3 players for over £1 million in total - so signing one back for half that isnt any better than us as Nudger keeps reminding us.</p>

    We do need a couple of players but just throwing money around like Cardiff have is not a strategy I think we should adopt. We need the right players at the right price, or a couple of decent loans.

    Just cos others are spending significant amounts doesnt mean we have to</p>

    Exactly, theirs a fcking loan market out their, Man Utd reserves, Arsenal reserves, so why have Derby/Birmingham signed Arsenal reserve players on loan and not us?

    But I do know that there are still several weeks for us to sort out deals. We dont have to have everything in place for next Saturday - the transfer window doesnt close till the end of August

    You're starting to sound silly..

    Clubs will ONLY be willing to loan players out if they are certain that they aren't going to play a part for them. Therefore, unless they have a lot of cover in that position (IE Kerrea Gilbert, Arsenal have Eboue, Lauren, Toure, etc.), clubs won't loan players out until they know whether they will need them.

    Now, I'm sorry, but Man Utd don't have cover for Rossi. A lot of other clubs don't have cover for their strikers. So they aren't going to loan them out. Fact.

    No thats right - he should rush out and sign someone

    doesnt matter who really - as long as he spends some money and makes a signing thats the most important thing.</p>



    Never mind the fact that we really are not as bad as some would have us believe, and we have signed new players and we have time after the first match to sign people. No patience is not good in a manager - he should just rush out and do something </p>

    genuine question - why do we have to do everything before kick off next week - I really dont see why its so critical

    If he brings in a striker, ill be ok, we'll be ok

    i just cant believe we havent signed one (aswell as young Coulson). It was our major weakness last season. Surely Ritchie watched the games.

    Look at the other teams in the division and they have, bar Colchester, who are just ****

    but everyone wants a striker - its not like you just go to tesco and get one. currently seems to be favouring getting one on loan - Now I will be a bit disappointed if Ships goes to Rovrum as he would be ideal for us, and if we cant entice him away from them then things are bad

    And no we dont have a 20 goal a season striker at the moment - possible exception Nardiello - but wont play enough games - but we dont have to sign before Cardiff - before end of Transfer window will do

    Surely hed come to a Championship club than a league 1 club in heavy financial insecurity. If he does go to Rotherham i'll probably turn to suicide.
