    Very dominant in everything yesterday.
The defender no. 26 will probably never have a better game, you know, one of those players that gets on yer nerves because he did NOTHING wrong.

I was in the tunnel when the teams lined up. I thought 26 Barnett? He Looked a proper hard nut, a throwback centre half in the Mal Shotton mould. I suspected we'd struggle after seeing them line up. Men against boys unfortunately
Also if we don't resign Aidey White I would be looking at their No3, decent left back

I think we played to their strengths. long balls up front and passes too short in midfield allowing them to jump on the play and outnumber us. The tricky small kid up front seemed to have a free reign. Never mind onwards and upwards.

That number 10 was a real handful. The lad that looked like andy Carroll too. Their left full back. Thought he was decent and the lad on the right wing, 14? Didn't get much joy out of Williams but was decent when he cut inside.

Agreed, our midfield was outworked and nobody knew who should have been marking Payne #10 . He seemed to have a free role and kept popping up between our lines.

Adam Barrett has been with us a couple of years now, In his second spell. He was part of the side that were promoted to The Championship about 10 years ago.

He nearly retired at the end of last season, but was persuaded to continue. He's lost a bit of pace, but reads the game well and is a great organizer. Doesn't always get the recognition he deserves, so it's good to hear you guys being positive about him.

Ben Coker is our left-back. Pretty solid and likes to get forward, but his crossing could be better.

When you played at our place, Dan Crowley stood out for you, but I heard he went back to Arsenal.

Best of luck for the rest of the season. Be good if you can go up with a young side.

Dan Crowley was just far too lightweight and small for this division at present. In a few years time he could make a cracking player, but at present, he's just too small.

    Cheers for that Tudor

As already said Southend played well and did a job on us ,
It is s young side we have but very capable IMO,the job the did second half at Walsall was very impressive and we are capable of repeating those types of performances and results again this season.
The thrashing of Bury after a very hard game at Fleetwood in the jpt and coming back after a defeat at Gillingham makes me very optistic for rest of season and if you put performances like yesterdays into your run in its going to be a rollercoaster of division IMO.

After Payne I thought their best play was no4, the kid who hit the bar. Drifted into some terrific positions.

Number 4 for us is Anthony Wordsworth, who hit the bar in the first half.

He is a decent ball player and has an eye for goal. Bit languid at times. Like Michael Carrick, but without having quite the same talent.

Nicely balanced player who fits in well for us, but does have a few off days and drifts out of the game. We signed him from Ipswich in the close season, after they had shipped him out last season on loan to a couple of clubs.

Hurst (14) is probably going to move on. Yesterday was his first start for some time. Not played to his potential in the last couple of years.

Dan Bentley, the keeper, is sought after, but hasn't been at his top best lately. Probably should have been sent off yesterday. Has bags of potential.

Payne (10) is a quality player. Our forum are sometimes too hyper-critical of him and Brown doesn't know whether to play him right up top with Barnett or in the hole behind.

Picking up on Dan Crowley, who played well at our place. He did seem to want to do everything himself and there was a point in the second half when Lee Johnson called him over to the touchline and, let's say, they didn't seem to overly agree on what was being said!

What was the deal with Johnson? .. He seemed like he was riding his luck after that run of results, but you kept faith with him and he walked away later. Don't think that would have gone down too well at our place.

Hirst, that's the lad I though had a good game yesterday. I thought it was him who hit the bar? Nevermind.

Aye Crowley was the sort who thought he could do it all, but Lee said ash much when he signed him. Had an excellent game against Everton, where he scored. To be fair, I think he was afforded a little more room in that game than he was getting used to in league 1.

As for Lee Johnson; our owner Patrick Cryne said after Danny Wilson, he refused to pay off another manager, talked about longevity, and building for the future. Personally during our bad run, I didn't think we were playing particularly poorly, just making the odd defensive mistake and not taking our chances, similar to yesterday but to your credit, you were far better than the likes of Crewe and Shrewsbury who both won at Oakwell. Whether that was the reason we stuck by Lee Johnson, only Patrick Cryne and chief exec Ben Mansford can tell us. They consistently ensured us they had faith in Lee. Seemingly that faith was well placed as we went on this magnificent run, which has been continued by Paul Heckingbottom, who has done an exceptional job thus far. Hopefully we'll put our faith in him long term, because for me, he's the right man at present.

Said when you played at our place that you had a decent young side and outplayed us in the second half and should have got something from the game.

The two full-backs looked a little shaky and the killer instinct wasn't quite there in front of goal, but in midfield you looked pretty strong and with plenty of flair.

It was good to keep faith with the policy of putting a team together. We tend to chop and change a bit too much. Hence why we made 3 changes yesterday and 4 the game before. Think we've used something like 24 players since the new year.

Hurst, on his day, is a good player. Had a stormer at Sheffield United. Equally, though, he can have a shocker and when we lost 3 on the trot around New Year, he was dropped.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

I see you have a lot of tough away games to come.

Enjoy the JPT Final. We played in it a couple of years back against Crewe. The Green Man was our pub of choice, prematch.:)

Speaking of Barnett who I take is the black lad upfront? How on earth was he still on the pitch at the end? Non stop fouling all game and the one on Roberts in the first half where he just ran into him two or three seconds after the ball had gone was ad cynical as you'll see.

Posted the above back in March and also posted when you played at our place.

    Told you, you'd be alright.

Congrats on going up and beating Millwall!!

Extraordinary effort, given you were bottom on 1st December 2015.

Best wishes for the future on behalf of Southend Utd FC.
