You don't know what you've got till it's gone. Our most successful boss since Alf Ramsay. He won't be short on big money off, but should relax for now and fit in some trips to Bettys for those Fat Rascals he loves.
Thanks Gareth, enjoy your ‘free time’ I agree it really is time for change. We need someone who is happy to and capable of allowing the players express themselves and play their natural game, whilst at the same time able to rein them in when necessary. I’m sure there is someone out there. Hope the Lampard rumours are unfounded though
Not totally surprised at this but thought he may be should have taken a few more days to think it through
We'll still be disappointed as long as the FA keep appointing politically 'nice', media savvy nice-guys instead of someone who can make the very most of the talent at his disposal.
I look forward to us absolutely walking the next tournament, as judging by a lot of comments on here it's apparently our god given right and Southgate was the only barrier to it happening.
Thanks for the memories, Gareth. Only manager to get us to 2 major finals, 4 semi finals, and won more knockout games than the previous however many coaches combined. I've a funny feeling that despite the current 'golden generation', a fair few might live to regret the flack they've given you.
There'll soon be a number of fairly uninspiring names being touted as his replacement. But if the next coach can replicate what Southgate has done to keep the squad togetherness in tact, and add a bit of tactical nous, then there's no reason we can't be successful at the next Euros (No chance in the World Cup). Maybe the best solution would've been Southgate staying, but getting some new people with fresh perspectives as assistant coaches.
I'm not a fan of the man, in footballing terms, but he's a very decent human being and I wish him well. Let's see who the dumbells at the FA appoint.
Think it is the right time. He has done a good job for sure and got us to 2 major finals and got the nation believing we can win something again but never managed to get us over the line. Time for someone else with new ideas to have a go.
4 tournament's is enough of a crack to try and win something. We need a proactive coach not a reactive one. We have come up short this time, but in the cold light of day Southgate will know we should have beaten Italy
Can't wait to walk the next 3 tournaments now that useless moron has gone. Fancy only getting us to back to back Euro Finals, a WC semi final and losing on pens in a WC Quarter final. Rhubarb.
I think after 8 years and 4 tournaments it's probably the right decsion he's made. Thanks for the memories Gareth dragged us out of the depths. Not sure where we go from here tough call with a glaring lack of quality managers available, I think Eddie Howe will get the gig tbh.
It's no coincidence that the Welsh first minister resigned shortly after Southgate. The FA has a history of employing people who are politicians first and football managers second.
I think with a better team selection we should have been looking at 3 Finals and possibly one tournament victory. I don't think we deserved it on the night against Spain. However, tactically against Croatia in 2018 and Italy in 2021. He got it wrong sitting back. Should have beaten Italy in the Euro Final but whether we'd have beaten France in 2018 is up for debate.
