IPSWICH Town striker Alan Lee today said he believed Barnsley defender Dennis Souza had deliberately elbowed him in the face during last night's game. Lee added that he had been told by the referee not to react to the alleged incident. He also said ref Darren Drysdale had told him he would look at the video of the match and take a view on the incident Souza was accused of being involved in. The matter may then be forwarded to the FA if Drysdale believes there is a case against the Tykes' player. If any action is taken against Souza it could result in him missing the FA Cup semi-final against Cardiff. Lee, who said he was unsure whether he was inside the box when fouled soon after the alleged elbowing offence, admitted that the players deserved their after-match dressing down by the manager. Lee said: “Our heads went down at 2-1. That is not right and the gaffer was right to have a go. “There is no excuse for how we ended the game. “But we had a couple of penalty calls, their keeper made some great saves - and we hit the bar twice. “I think I must have broken a mirror at some stage, as I have struck the woodwork about six times recently. “I feel sharp and ready to go again, but was left disappointed by the game. “We have nine huge matches left starting with Charlton on Saturday.”
Alan Lee can **** off!!! Hope Souza doesn't miss the semi, if he gets a match or 2 we have cover with Lewin, but Lewin can't play in the semi! I would actually rest him this Saturday anyway after two very hard games which he was carrying a knock in! Get him fit for Sheff utd and the semi soon after! He sometimes isn't as good away from home as well! Back four for Saturday of - Van Homett or Hassel, Foster, Lewin, Kozluck
Strange that nobody seems to have noticed and there was nothing from the commentary that suggested that happened.</p>
I saw it He went down holding his face and complaining to the referee, but it was obvious there was absolutely nothing wrong with him. At the very worst Souza's arm caught him as they were both running, but it was definitely unintentional.
I saw him go down holding his face Seemed rather innocuous, if there was contact it was just the natural movement of his arms whilst running. Ref was facing it and it was right in front of the linesman.
RE: I saw him go down holding his face Assistant Referee The incident happened right in front of me. I didn't see anything untoward. Souza positioned himself between Lee and the ball and foster came over to clear. To be fair Souza does have a habit of waving his arms about for example if you recall the Hull game on sky. Dean
Was it? Sorry, I didn't bother to check first names of the match officials....and as it was the official at the opposite side I couldn't tell and just made an assumption - wrong of me I know! I do apologise to her, I'm sure she's a lovely young lady!
You couldn't tell it was a woman with a pony tail? I'm impressed by that one EastStander. It was the lovely miss Rayner (sp?) and she was just as bad as always. Having said that, the fatty at the other side was very poor as well.
anyway, just to pick it up from an even more pedantic point of view. It's definitely a referees assistant nowadays.
although half of the time the ref over-rules them as happened at least once last night I thought Amy Raynor looked worth one last night, should I be worried?
RE: Still can't get used to using that term nt Funny thing is 'arr Lass' turned round to me at the game and said "Why would a woman want to be a ref or assistant ref? They will get some right stick" Very astute reasoning. Dean
As I said Opposite side of the pitch - and apart from when they wave their flag around I tend not to notice them. And what does a pony tail have to do with owt? Souza has one! Now who's being sexist?
I'm convinced that against Chelsea, the referee overuled the assistant who was flagging for a throw-in, he looked and waved play on. I'm not sure that's part of the rules.
Sorry, i'll clarify Yep, I saw him go down. What I meant is that people don't seem to think thare was a deliberate or intentional hit from Denis.
