For the past few days each time we put the central heating on there is smokey smell coming from the boiler, had a look underneath & it looks as though it may just be a build up of dust (the boiler hasn't been serviced for 2/3 years). Tried to get underneath to hoover/clean it out but still getting the smell. Also, it seems as though the flames are coming beyond the pilot light which, to the untrainined eye, isn't the best sign.

Do you reckon with a service & a clean it should be ok or is something a little more serious?

Also, how much will I be looking at for a service?

    Cheers in advance,

    Liam.

    switch it off now

I'm no plumber but dont take any risks with boilers. They can be lethal.

I would say a service would be abart 100 quid

It's off mate, not exactly ideal for this time of year though!

Cheers. I'll have a look into that carbon monoxide alarm as well.

Cheers Dave, forgot about that. It's got worse over the past couple of days so I think I'll ring him tomorrow. What's his number again?
