Top lads - great spirit; the sort we used to see under AR :D Danny was cagey about promotion, but you could see it in his eyes - he knows they're up.

He's not coming to the dinner on the 24th - he went to one last week and "knew nothing" about the 'official' dinner until Tuesday just gone.

Met him about a dozen times now - mainly work, one wedding, one drunken night in central London. I'd say about as 'top' as top blokes can get. No airs or graces, media-friendly, a spade's a spade etc etc.. I wouldn't want him back at Oakwell, but can't help wondering what might have been if he'd not made that ghastly mistake and gone to t'fowls.

Without intending to start a mass debate......

why would you not want him back as manager?

Oh, nowt to do wi' him going to Wednesday - I've just always been a staunch advocate of 'never go back', be it player or manager. There's rarely anything to gain and everything to lose. I had no problem with him jumping ship - job he'd allus dreamt of, yadda yadda.... - I just thought he was making a personal mistake, and so it proved. Wednesday fans' favourite to Sheffield pariah in a short space of time.

He did not speak too highly of Hodkinson either...
