Souza? you sure? one to keep, but not the first name on the team sheet, I'd agree wi the other two, swap Foster for Souza
RE: Souza? See previous post re Howard.</p> Souza rated 58th best player in Championship. Howard 76th, Nyatanga 89th.</p> Muller was in top 10 before his injury and rated 2nd best keeper.</p>
RE: Souza - Feel He Can Sometimes Be A Liability Altho becoming a terrace hero I feel he can sometimes cost us dear. His style of defending, where he gets so close up his opponents ass they could be one, seems to go punished by the ref everytime the opposition player spins off him. Free kicks against him have lead to goals for the other team. Also capable of conceding needless penalties!
Souza's nothing more than average. He's slow and can't kick a football properly. Gives away needless set peices and is at fault for a lot of goals. Foster & Nyatanga are far, far, far better defenders. And to the chap on about the Actim index. Who gives a ****. It's based on how many shots, tackles, passes etc that you make. Odejayi could have 450 shots, score 2 and be 2nd in the table. It doesn't mean he's a good player. If it was FourFourTwo top 50 players or PFA awards I'd say ok, but it's a pointless system.
I don't know which I rate lowest Bags of Yak ****, the stats you refer to, or the people who refer to such stats.
In my opinion, the consistent criticism of Souza is ridiculous. He has made some mistakes (particularly against fast strikers) but he's also had some superb defensive performances against big, powerful centre halves - something which we have ALWAYS struggled with. He's a damn sight better than anything we've had in the last few years, and yes, I include Antony Kay in that.
Sorry. I must have missed the invisible text where I wrote that he was better than Foster or Nyatanga. I just said the criticism he gets is unfair. I was referring to the centre backs we've had in the previous few seasons.
You really are clueless.</p> </p><table width="100%" cellspacing="1" border="0" class="bbstable"><tbody><tr><td valign="top" class="messagemiddle" style="height: 150px"><table width="711" cellspacing="1" border="0" class="bbstable" style="height: 154px"><tbody><tr><td valign="top" class="messagemiddle" style="height: 150px"><span class="smalltext"> </span></td><td valign="top" class="messagemiddle"><table width="100%" cellspacing="1" border="0" class="bbstable"><tbody><tr><td valign="top" class="messagemiddle" style="height: 150px"><span class="smalltext"> </span></td><td valign="top" class="messagemiddle">Souza's nothing more than average. The Actim Index is based on a players contribution to the team. It's not based on how many tackles etc. it's based on how successful the players actions. Before you knock it I suggest you get your facts right. It's much more accurate than than the 4-4-2 and Pfa Awards which are subjective.</p>
Foster has been consistant all season but Souza has had some top performances this season his first in this Country. Its because he's blended in so well people take him for granted, I reckon he will go on improving next season. As for Nyatanga he will probably become a better player in years to come but he's not there at the moment.
We have got more than a spine to build around. Muller, Foster, Souza, Nyatanga, Kozluk, Anderson, Howard, JCR, Leon, Macken. All are top perfomers at this level. Add 3 or 4 more of the same quality or better and we have got a good squad. Others like Steele, VHom, Hassell, Devaney, Odejayi, Coulson, Butterfield as squad players.
Shots, tackles, passes etc are they not part of a players contribution to the team whether successful or not. If I were you I would read Actim stats explained on the Actim website.
