Is it really necessary to mention them every time there's an announcement? i know they pay there money to get the publicity but surely they don't need a mention every time the announcer opens his gob. He doesn't say anything without mentioning them which I find a bit irritating.

On Saturday we had the announcer shouting "Pukka Pies sponsored East Stand, CK-Beckett Sponsored Ponte End, Hazelden sponsored West Stand - get behind the Super Reds". Hardly sounds spontaneous.
Then, Barnsley goalscorer sponsored by XYZ - Connor Hourihaine". We also had the "Man of the Match sponsored by whoever - Sam Winnall" and then finally "today's attendance, sponsored by thingamibob, 9000."

Not sure how you sponsor an attendance - maybe 1p for every fan.

If it gets the club money then it's fine by me. It doesn't hurt us in any way, it makes the sponsers happy and makes the club have more money. Win, win to me.

I'm not arguing against the sponsorship idea but they've already sponsored the stand, matchball, program, player, kit, attendance anyway without needing an announcement every time he says anything.
Wasn't like this last season but we still had sponsors.

Did we have sponsors last season? I thought the club had only heard of the word "Sponsor" this year.

I seem to remember it was an idea that came from a fans forum particularly the goal announcements

I know what you mean. In our first visit to the Keepmoat it was irritating hearing who's sponsored the oncoming sub and I did hope we'd never follow suit.

Barnsley fans have spent years complaining that we can't compete financially with other clubs, then complain when the commercial team bring in sponsors, who (surprise surprise) want their brand or company to receive as much exposure as possible.

Football fans really are a quirky bunch. If we want the brass to come in then sponsors have to be given a platform. It's not the 80s anymore and it's the way of football these days. We haven't sold the club's soul to a rich foreigner, we've just mentioned our sponsors in an announcement. Chill.

As I said before, I've nowt against sponsorship but are they paying extra for the announcement?
People have been sponsoring players for years but this season they're getting a mention even when he's reading the subs out. "Substitute for Barnsley Leroy Lita sponsored by Globe Travel"
Maybe we should have sponsors for the announcement as well?
"This announcement for the Blueline Taxis Man of the Match is sponsored by A1 Taxis" - "oh forgot, the winner is Sam Winnal sponsored by ADM Taxis"
Don't you think "Today's attendance, sponsored by Woodies Fish Shop" is taking it to the extreme though?

Must be me in my old age, I just find it irritating and if we're not making any extra money from the announcement itself, why do it?
