Do you think that Steele has been ***** then? Been best player so far this season. Only one to come out of this season so far with any grace.
I agree but Muller is worth 10-15 points a season on his own as shown today, thats not to take anything away from steele though i think hes been a very adiquate replacement but muller is the number 1.
RE: Do you think that Steele has been ***** then? no-one said he was *****, muller is the better keeper, FACT. before the january break last season everybody was bricking themselves about Muller leaving in the transfer window, then he got injured, was steele in this position?? No he was third choice at west brom, he came to us, played great, got signed, and started this season well. however the 1st choice keeper is now fit and has retaken his place. that's life, thats football, get over it.
Were there any shots in today's game that Steele would have been unable to save though? No idea if there was or not but just because Muller kept a clean sheet it's a bit harsh to make out that he saved the game if in fact any decent keeper could have done so.
taken from skysports.com's description of our game: "Barnsley secured their first away point of the season after emerging from St Mary's with a goalless draw with Southampton. The visitors actually had the majority of the possession on the South Coast, while returning Tykes keeper Heinz Muller was in commanding form as Saints had the better of the chances. Although the South Yorkshire side never really looked like scoring, their point was secured as Muller denied Bradley Wright-Phillips, Tomas Pekhart and Adam Lallana at the other end."
Yeah but the same has been said of Luke Steele a few times this season. He pulled off a string of excellent saves against Derby and if the report said he was in commanding form we wouldn't all suddenly assume that Muller wouldn't have got to them just because Steele did. Likewise, just because Muller makes a save it doesnt mean Steele wouldn't. Both excellent keepers in my opinion and I don't think that there is much in either of them. Muller has strengths that steele doesnt (height, commanding presence) but Steele has strengths that muller doesnt (like an ability not to punch the ball out to an attacker)
Its impossible to say None of Mullers saves were any that Steele would not have made - the question really is whether Mullers presence gave the defence more confidence - or whether Southampton were so poor it would have been no goals scored either way. I could have played in goal for Southampton and kept a clean sheet so it doesnt really prove too much
