You would think Pines, Roberts and Earl would make a good back 3 in this division and that one of Lofthouse, O'Keefe or Cotter can find some form at right wing back.

Plenty of bodies in midfield but we need to add someone who can pick the ball up and run with it.

And we need a keeper, at least one left back/wing back and a couple of forwards.

I'm hoping Vimal Yoganathan breaks through this season, the bits we've seen of him look good.

I have said previously we are in a quandary, in that our overall squad is way too large, BUT we have what maybe considered the golden generation of young players coming through.

The players who I consider part of this golden generation include Fabio Jalo, Theo Chapman, Vimal Yoganathan, Nathan James, Jonathan Bland, Adam Hayton, Aaron Atkinson, Kieron Flavell, Josiah Dyer and maybe others.

We as a club have to try and get some of these young players substantial and quality game time, be it either with us or out on loan, or we will waste the individual players talent and will not get the long term proceeds all our development time and effort deserves.

Personally I would weed out all the players who are not likely to feature much during the coming season, this may have already started loaning Andy Dallas and selling Oli Shaw, but there are quite a few other that need to be moved on.

Then we can give some of the golden generation places in the matchday squad and subsequent minutes on the pitch.

Others may not agree with this policy and want bought in players, who may be or may not be good enough for us, but if we don't give our own players a go we shall never know how good they are/will be.

Do we know what formation the gaffer will want to play? It probably won’t happen but we could make a decent 4-3-3 from that….

Need a left wingback, I don’t think Brandon Williams has signed anywhere yet? I’d expect he’ll have plenty of offers though

I am pleased with the signing of Roberts, who will have the experience to organise the defence - someone they can look up to and who has done it before, as well as being already popular with the fam base. We were told that new signings would only be made if they improved the quality of the squad and both of these so far do that. I would rather have just a few signings, like Roberts and Hourihane, plus a keeper, left back and striker and bring on the youngsters with the older heads to coach and prompt them. Looks the right balance and could be the making of some of our promising youngsters, who otherwise might run around like headless chickens. Good so far. Keeper, left back (unless it's Styles) and striker needed. Maybe the silence is that we are in for more better quality players for whom there may be competition. Would be the right way to proceed in my book. Here's hoping. Good so far.

Personally I'd keep styles now providing he's willing to knuckle down, slot him into LWB if he has a good first half to season it might give him a move in Jan.
    Can't be worth much now

    Great post.

The scattergun approach of previous windows has left most of our academy lads miles away from a first team opportunity for years. What’s the point of investing in the academy if the path to first team football is clogged up by lads a couple of years older, who in most cases haven’t been good enough?
