Question is are people happy with this squad so far. Without seeing us kick a ball in anger are we happy. Its easy to say the 'why did we buy him' etc later but right now?

Personally i am. I like the balance, the youth, the attraction of players that have built a reputation. Now we have to make them gel and get into our 'plan'. But i think having a good pre-season, all together is a big positive too.

Backline is completed IMO unless we lose Yiadom. Hecky said he wanted 7 and that's what we've got. Some players in there who can play a couple of positions

    Central midfield is looking good

    Need another winger

Then 3 strikers has to be the priority

Just worried we won't sign anyone of Transfer Deadline Day now which would be disappointing haha

I'd like more experience at the back, two quality strikers, midfield enforcer and another 2 wingers (not sure Hedges is anywhere near good enough yet)

It's early July. Given the circumstances of departures, I'm delighted. We've given ourselves a fighting chance of bedding players in. Players, mostly on 3 year deals.

Hecky knows we need 2 strikers If we can't sign them, we'll loan them.

When you see teams like Wolves and Birmingham splashing the amounts they are, you realise what we are up against. We can only live within our means. Think we've done as well as we can up to now.

Pleased so far. Still need a hard man midfielder, a winger or two and 2/3 strikers. Maybe a left back if Kpekawa goes/ isn't rated.

Think there'll be a couple at the end of the window where someone is made available.

Icer. That's what i've been trying to do but then I get the abuse if I say I'm not sure about a player.

    to answer the thread starter.

Goalkeeper and defence if someone special comes along maybe on loan/perm then go for them but no.
Midfield. A nice defensive minded player. Left winger of quality preferably left footed
Striker 1/2/3 strikers. one all rounder which I've been banging on about all summer. One with extreme pace. another whatever PH wants to bulk on.

Then strengthen u23's up to try and be competitive in that league.

Squad is shaping up nicely for me. Alot of potential alot of quality. A tough midfielder couple of strikers and maybee a winger and we're looking something like aren't we? I think we will look at the loan market for at least one striker as getting a championship striker will cost us millions.
We have plenty of options in regards formation can see us using a 3 with wing backs next season but hecky has plenty of choice with the players he now has.

We really do need another striker.

    1. Davies,
    2. Yiadom.
    3. Fryer.
    4. D'Almeida.
    5. McDonald.
    6. Lindsay.
    7. Isgrove.
    8. McGeehan.
    9. Bradshaw.
    10. Moncur.
    11. Hammell. (capt)

With what we have now this would be my team.

No problem with any of the players we've brought in, they all fit the spec we're going for. I'm sure some will turn out to be good players, others average, you never get 100% strike rate. I'd be happier if we had some players left I recognise, but it is was it is.

We still need two forwards and a disciplined midfielder who can put a tackle in and link defence with attack, Matty James would be nice, but he's on Premier League wages and we can't compete with that. Another winger would be beneficial too.

My worry isn't the quality of the players, but the lack of experience at this level. When Marc Roberts arrived he played a couple of good games and then a number of poor ones and we took him out of the team for 3 months to work with him on the training ground. He came back looking 10 times the player he was and never looked back. That was League 1 that he took a while to adapt to, The Championship is much, much tougher. We've got at least half a dozen players that will be trying to find their feet at this level and the concern is that as they're learning we might be getting stuffed and confidence can quickly drain. Then even more mistakes creep in. We don't have the luxury of being able to take inexperienced players out of the side to give them a rest and work with them on the training ground because almost everyone is inexperienced.

There's a lot of pressure on Hammill to help guide some of these lads through games.

Yes, I am, so far. I still think we need and will acquire a few more players.
We have more Championship experience in this squad than we did twelve months ago, so that isn't an issue for me. The only lads that had the experience then were White & Hammill and we didn't do too badly.

That's an interesting line up. No place for McCarthy or Mallan.?
Another point, Hecky hinted that it might take some time to get McGeehan up to
full match fitness following his leg break so we'll have to wait and see what happens with him.
Also given what happened last season is Adam Hammill likely to establish a regular place in the
    team.?

We are miles off, but we have made a good start. This is Hecky's first proper team. Let's f_ing well support it. We will be in for a journey, lead by a club legend. I can ask no more than that.
