Obviously take the values with a pinch of salt, but in terms of the order of who is the most valuable, this is the top 15 current Barnsley players. Thoughts?
As I said, the values are arbitrary. It's the order of who is worth most at the club that I think is most important.
Could argue the top eight in some kind of order in importance is correct. Maybe a few need to change etc but they’re our top eight players
To me this is where we might well see the most significant benefits of making the playoffs last year and the exposure/TV coverage that brings. Most years our highest rated player is less than a million on this scale. This kind of exposure can be the difference between us selling a player for £3m and Brentford selling an equivalent player for £20m.
Quite an interesting read, absolute values may be slightly off but the relative ordering looks reasonable. I had a quick look at West Brom’s squad and Alex Mowatt has a value of £6.3m. Again not saying it’s right or wrong but it explains why a weekly wage beyond what Barnsley can afford can be justified.
Not far off that I don't think- it will obviously take into account age and contract length etc, which is probably why Anderson is 'worth' more than Helik on paper.
To be fair, it could have been worse. I'd argue that Anderson improved when he stopped playing on grass and start playing in the air!
It's all pointless really as the true value of a player is the amount someone is willing to pay, simple as that.
The same is true of any saleable item, unless the sellers club together and rig the market of course.
Thing is though if Mowatt had signed for us would Transfermarkt have still valued him at £6.3m? Somehow I doubt it
I think he was at £4m last time I looked before the play offs. All the values have been updated since the end of the season and I would expect being in the Championship team of the season to have added a bit.
