anyone who goes on holiday there or goes and watches them play cricket next time they are back in the UK they are endorsing a regime on a par with Nazi Germany.
Please explain re: the cricket team. I don't like sport being hijacked by politics and I can't imagine that the cricketers had anything to do with the atrocities however I haven't seen the programme so I am at a bit of a disadvantage.
There come's a point where regardless of the "I'm only playing sport" defence becomes untenable. At the end of the day, I would refuse to play on the tour of Sri Lanka, its not even as though anyone can doubt the evidence, would you be happy if they did a tour of Syria? Or North Korea? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...s-War-Crimes-Unpunished-Channel-4-review.html Time for people of conscience to stand up and say enough is enough.
Said exactly the same on the original documentary. Seem to recall sumdi telling mi that it was 'nice and cheap'.
You can't deal with issues like this through sport. The cricketers are, I assume, innocent as are many cricket fans so why should they be punished for the crimes of others. Reminds me a little of the banned tours of South Africa back in the late 70's / early 80's.
But on the flip side, the added tourism is adding money into an economy that's being led by a bloke that's killed/killing thousands of people in his country. I agree you can't deal with the issue, but by stopping an influx of cash and highlighting the problem is a start.
I just wish the authorities and governments would make the decision instead of leaving it to the individuals involved. I think it leaves the sportsperson in an impossible situation
Here, here Dyson. Its no good MarioKempes quoting South Africa, evidence suggests that the sporting bans there had a huge impact on the political situation.
I disagree. International sport has a captive audience, many of whom would never take an interest in the politics otherwise. Ref, a Mr H.Tyke of this board within this thread. It's a sad state of affair if such a situation can arise where the politicians let it get to this stage where sport can be the primary publicist, but when it does then sport can play a very powerful role in bringing to the fore an issue that might otherwise be ignored. Cricket helped to ramp up the political pressure in Zimbabwe in the past, without the ICC setting a stance. Perhaps individuals should be trusted to their own conscience?
I doubt it, bring to me the evidence that C4 has caused "British" citizens a problem. Meanwhile please explain the evidence of the thousands of woman and children murdered by the Sri Lankan Regime. I guess because they're not white, westerners they count for less though?
Don't know who's made the biggest leap on this thread, you are mi owd chum Hemsworth. Leave him alone, he's just worried int he.
A regime that can bring down such desturction on its own people will sure as hell make sure that anyone from England touring with the team will get treated like a king by the locals - queue lots of people saying how tranquil and beautiful they found the country, etc, etc, willing idiots of the murderous government.
