Does anyone know much about statutory sick pay? I was off ill for 6 months last year, during which I received full pay for the duration of my illness. I fell ill again last week & I'll probably be off for around a month or so. I've been told today, via text, that I'll only be receiving SSP this time. I thought that company sick pay, where companies pay it, ran in line with the tax year, so I thought I now had a full set of sick days again. I'm now wondering if you have to work a full year before you're eligible for any company sick pay again?
Company Sick Pay and SSP are two completely different entities. You will have to see your terms and conditions regarding the rules for company sick pay as every employer has the right to have what policies they want regarding this. They all have to follow the same rules for SSP which you will almost certainly be entitled to for upto 28 (?) weeks.
ssp is only £79.15 per week there are two sick schemes usually - one is based on a financial year so as long as you have returned from the absence you'll get another full allowance. The other is based on a rolling 12 month period which goes back for the previous 12 months so from today takes in any absence back to 8 July last year. If you have had all you entitlement it only kicks back in as you lose some of the days off the total. via text is a bit naff they should at least tell you in writing. I'd ask them to check it and send it in writing. get well soon!
I recently had 9 months off work due to hodgkins disease & recieved 26 weeks of full pay & then SSP after that!!! I have worked for my employer for 3 yrs, but my contract states i have 2 work for them for 5 yrs before i can recieve a full year of sick pay??? To their credit they paid me my full wage for longer than i was due, after i wrote to my boss to explain my predicament/situation... Lets hope you can sort something out!!! because SSP is no where near your full wage!!! Good luck
