    Bloody hell. Another icon from my youth gone. His autobiography is a brilliant read. A gambling addict who'd be in the betting office watching a race 10 minutes before kick off. RIP Stan.

    Spent an afternoon interviewing Stan at Loftus Road for a series we co-produced with BBC Education back in the late 90s. Everything set up. Cameras, lighting, nice backdrop of the pitch & stands. Good to go.

    Problem - no Stan. Waited. Club couldn't get hold of him. Phoned his house & got a tip where he might be. 15 minute walk down to Goldhawk Road and found him in the bookies, staring at the screens....
