chubby brown and billy connelly etc were good for their day but couldn't move with the times.
i still like the old comedians mick miller, johnny casson. michael mcintyre is a bit samish to me but i like jimmy carr, lee mac and timmothy vine, best one liner i've ever heard.

Been to see plenty in the past, but I have to say one of the funniest men I have seen was Ken Dodd!!!
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would enjoy him, but bloody hell he really is the king of the one liners, makes Tim Vine look like a novice. He was on stage for 4 hours and I laughed so much I thougfht I had popped a rib, it hurt so much.
Mike Harding is still a funny fella too.

Anyone in a theatre or a comedy club. Stand-up in an arena just doesn't work for me, I'm afraid.

I know it's all about opinions

But to lump Billy Connolly in with Chubby Brown and then to claim he is unable to move with the times when he packs out theatres throughout the world, continually updating his show and bringing in a new audience is just barmy.

You don't like him, fair enough, but what you've said is completely inaccurate.

Re: I know it's all about opinions

as you say its my opinion, but i did actually like billy connelly but i feel his act is just the same. as before, maybe its just me.
but wasn't putting him in same celebrity status as chubby just stating imo that he hadn't moved with the times. you must admit he's not as popular as he once was.

The fringe starts on Friday so...

We'll be watching Stephen K Amos, followed by Ross Noble and Paul Foot, amongst other smaller local acts.

The comedy lifespan of a standup is usually quite short I find. Funny for a few years then they become stale and things move on. Tim Minchin is the latest bright star to fade to grey (IMO).

A select few endure. I'd put Billy Connelly in that bracket.
