Standing section or subsidied travel?

    A lot of folk desperate to follow the European model of safe standing, but would you rather have that or subsidised travel around Yorkshire with public transport on matchdays with your match ticket?

    Subsidised, obviously. Oops.

    Are the two not mutually possible?

    Brighton, mainly because they built a stadium with crap access give free and subsidised transport on match days to ticket holders

    Bring back the great days of 30 tracky buses lined up in grove street at 5pm

    It's a hypothetical situation, I'm not saying it's either/or. But if the club are going to spend x amount on creating a standing section, could that money be better spent elsewhere, in this situation, with subsidised travel for all fans.

    You mean to local away games? Bearing in mind that the club doesn't financially benefit from this, whereas the introduction of safe standing could lead to a rise in attendances, I'd definitely go with that. At the end of the day, whether it's as part of a new West Stand, which will definitely be needed at some point, or to bring new life to a North Stand which is rarely full, and was originally designed to accommodate both home and away fans, safe standing has to be an option which is well worth considering.

    I mean home games, free travel within Barnsley, or South Yorkshire, whatever works. It can includes trains and buses within a certain timeframe before/after matches.

    Something that benefits more than a few hundred fans.

    Neither for me.

    Don't know what the figures are for converting a stadium or part of to safe standing but I could not see us doing it in a million years.

    Money would be better spent on a supporter's bar. That will not happen either.

    It's not a bad idea in theory, though transport around South Yorkshire isn't particularly expensive, and the ground is well within walking distance of the interchange and town centre. Would spending, say £15,000 a week on transport add more than 500-600 to the pay on the day gate, as that would be (very roughly) the break even figure. I'm not sure it would.

    Apart from the fact that its not free - its included in the ticket price so you have to pay for the travel whether you want to or not

    Travel round Barnsley is cheap anyway. If I get a bus to the game from the far side of Wombwell it costs me £2 each way. And there are buses every few minutes. On the one occasion I got on a bus from close to where I live to Farnham station - its around 1 mile and there is one bus per hour and they dont run after 5pm it cost significantly more.

    The OP is a hypothetical scenario anyway though both are possible neither is so much more likely
