Nowt new, but Stan Ternant hasn't really been mentioned much before. Reds bide their time over boss By Simon Meeks BARNSLEY are admitting that it could be 2007 before they have a new manager in place. The club are sifting through some 20 applicants to succeed Andy Ritchie. Chairman Gordon Shepherd said that the last few have just trickled in. Caretaker-boss Simon Davey has not written in for the vacancy but the fact that the club feel able to take their time over the appointment is a vote of confidence in the 35-year-old academy manager. Owner Patrick Cryne has repeated that Davey's lack of experience could count against him. His first time in charge of a league game was on November 25. Shepherd has read all the applications, Cryne studied them over the weekend and directors Duncan Shepherd and Barry Taylor were assessing them this week. Neil Redfearn, Eric Winstanley, Kevin Blackwell, Stan Ternant and Gary Megson are thought to be among the contenders. Davey's fourth match in charge of the team is Sunday's televised game with West Brom at Oakwell (1.15pm). Centre back Antony Kay is continuing to have treatment for a groin injury, having been ruled out of last weekend's game at Leeds. West Brom's top scorer, Diomansy Kamara, will miss the match with Barnsley through suspension. One-time Barnsley target Danny Cardamarteri, the former Bradford and Everton striker, is having a trial at Oldham. Phil Parkinson's departure from Hull has presented Phil Brown with an opportunity to rebuild his management career at the KC Stadium. Hull sacked Parkinson, little more than five months after he was appointed as successor to Peter Taylor, with the club five points adrift of safety in the Championship. Brown, who was brought to Hull as first-team coach in October to help halt the club's slide, has been placed in temporary charge of first-team affairs along with assistant manager Colin Murphy. Brown's previous managerial stint, at Derby, proved ill-fated.
RE: I think Andy Ritchie is head and shoulders above all those. Not much talent about. If Davey continues getting the results, I see no reason not to stick with him until the end of the season. Plus, he's probably cheap.
