I reckon Sunak has taken an early lead.

His only attack line is labour will put up your taxes by 2k. Seems to forget his government put all our living costs up by unprecedented levels ever known.

Starmer not defending the position though, which leaves people thinking it's going to happen.

I can't believe how she is allowing sunak to get away with constant talking over Starmer. Even when telling him to cease. Starmer needs to play the dirty tricks but when he does she shuts him down.
Wow. she is so weak on sunak. He continues to talk over Starmer then she says answer that kier.

There you go. It’s actually Rishi being duplicitous. Once again

Obviously because she is on the pay roll of her Tory supporting media bosses.

Yeah does seem one rule for one and not the other. She’s been a terrible moderator.

The opening statement about pandemic and world financial crisis set the tone. laid out the Tories excuses before it even started..

I can't believe they've put Etchingham in charge of moderating this yet again. She was pathetic in the 2019 debates, and is even more so this time around.

Sunak just keeps waffling on through her interventions. Starmer has the decency to stop when asked.

The other problem is the 45 second time limit on responses, which stops either of them finishing their points. Sunak spends at least 30s of each response talking about the mythical £2k tax increase.

I'm glad he's finally attempted to shut it down, he should have done it in the first section but didn't.

Worst controller of debate I've ever seen. I reckon Sunak has had double the air time of Starmer at least. But Starmer needs to be more assertive. Now she has the gall to ask em BOTH to stop talking over one another.

Two people trying not to answer any question directly, whilst slagging each other off… this is Trump style politics. Country is knackered.

I watched the first half hour but switched off. I thought Sunak did marginally better. The 2000 tax rise attack looked effective to me as it seemed to continually get Starmer off guard. Starmer also seemed more nervous to me. Probably doesn't matter in the big scheme as Labour almost certainly win but that's how I saw the first half hour.

Starmer does need to be more outspoken, he was being dominated early on. If he can't handle someone like Sunak, he has little chance with people like Putin, Trump, Netanyahu, Viktor Orban etc. I understand why he's allowing it, it's the "rules/guidelines" but if Sunak & the moderator are doing it, he needs to insert himself too.

Does this leadership debate really make a difference to how people will vote?
