http://barnsleyfcstatistics.sports.officelive.com/default.aspx forced myself to watch the second half which I'd recorded. The most obvious thing to me (IMHO) wasn't JB but Perkins-he just seemed off the pace -not his usual self-and it's not a criticism just an observation that maybe he can't sustain his normal tempo for a third game in a week. It really didn't look all that bad-the finishes were excellent-we did create a few chances but Ipswich made us struggle. If we had lost 2-0 would the reaction have been the same? Anyway here's hoping we put one over on Fat Sam who I detest
I thought that about Perkins and JOB, I posted earlier that I wondered if the hammering they and others took in the first half from those dirty b,s had taken it's toll, and if it was, the worrying thing is that Fat Sam will have seen it and use similar tactics.
I agree to a certain extent. At 2-3, I said to my mate "we've given up.." and he said "yep.. even Shirley int chasing em abart..or Jimbo even." But, I remember a couple of good penetrating runs by Perkins late on, and he kept asking for it and playing it forward. My gripe with Jacob, was that when we were good 1st half, he was bossing things, asking for the ball, making runs etc. But 2nd half, he looked disinterested, gave the ball away, sometimes just instantly kicking it backwards randomly. It was so out of character. And there be my reasons for saying he went missing. But for me, my two favourite players usually, for reliability, Jimbo and Bobby, were our two worst performers. So Im hoping that they all had an off-day on the same day
It's a big ask to get a full 90 at that pace for the third time in 7 days,Vaz Te looked knackered too.
I think the problem was that Drinkwater was not replaced with another recognised midfielder. In hindsight a better replacement may have been Addison. There were too many lightweight"wingers" on the pitch which left Perkins with too much to do.
