I was very surprised not to see more people at the Swansea match, despite the horrible games/managment we had to endure previously at Oakwell this season. And whilst I didn't expect a larger than avarage crowd last night (the radio was grossly overoptimistic), I thought 6000+ was really poor, despite the hard times and bad start to the season. However, if half the people on here who were "staying away whilst Davey (was) at the helm" were representative of the general fanbase, we should have got 13000 or so against Swansea. Very disappointing. Nows the time to bring back the atmosphere in a big way. Come on you Reds! (clap)
To be fair the Swansea performance weren't going to get people to spend money they have not got. Its going to take a bit of a run for the crowds to get better.
I don't disagree, still a little surprising though. Given a big premier club at home in the next round we'd quickly see how hard up people are. Not that I want to make light of the situation you understand.
Dropping the prices a bit more might have made a difference. £10 adults and £5 for kids would have gone down better.
I wouldn't be too surprised. It was the Carling Cup, small crowds all over the country. 20k at Sunderland, 11.5k at Forest, 19k at Stoke, 8k at Bolton, 3k at Scunny. Just not the interest there, until the quarters.
? Missed your point really, especially r.e. Saturday. Just saying I was surprised. I think I'm allowed to be, despite not expecting a huge crowd by any means.
Sorry - my point was some of us work and have to travel long distances so can't physically make games . Mid week games are impossible for me and I'm sure many others on here are in the same boat. With a few exceptions i think you'll find there were a few teams whose crowds were an awful lot lower than their league attendances
It was the Carling Cup It means nothing to a lot of people. Midweek too, which doesn't help those who have to travel a fair distance to get to Oakwell.
I know, I was one of those for years. Still... ...be nice to see a slight increase over the next couple of months, I know the previous regime has caused at least some lasting damage to attendances, icluding my uncle who had an ST since the early 90's. Once you loose it, some people don't get it back (and to be fair, at the price being charged now...). But a lot of people were specifically saying that they'd be back once Davey went, remain to be convinced that they are backing up their words.
