    the one who said he used to ride the footplate, were you the engine driver there at the time?
    I have some black and white photos of No.1 taken in the 70s, I think.
    No.1 is now on the Embsay line at Bolton Abbey/Skipton.
    A shame now that there is absolutely nothing left of the pit to remember exactly where the train used to run.
    I must try to dig out those photos.

    No, I was a nipper at the time and the pit yard, Mitchells stack, pit pond, dike, cut etc was our playground. The usual diesel shunter was broken down so they fired up the one of the steam engines there (Darfield No.1). One day as I was just knocking about watching the driver invited me up onto the footplate and we rode up and down the sidings.

    I read somewhere that it is now at a steam centre in Staffordshire - sommert chasewater steam centre.
