Whoever we can persuade to come in on loan.

While Luke sits on his hands on the bench. Bloody daft rule. Someone who's wasting away as WBA's 48th choice isn't allowed to play for us against them.

Is it an FA rule then ? ....

.... that on-loan players cannot play against their parent clubs in the competition ?

R5L said this morning that Gordon Shepherd was hoping to agree with the West Brom chairman that he could play as there was nothing in his contract that forbade it.

Damn shame if true tho - he deserves hischance at glory as much as them all

I read that as meaning we can ask for permission, not that he definitely can't play !!

    Am I missing something here?

If we ask WB for permission and they agree it in writing by the Friday before he can play?
I sure WB might want to think twice about it, infact we might want to be sure we know where his loyalties lie, but its not breaking any rule for him to play is it?

BTW I though Gordon Shepherd on the radion today has spoken really well on our behalf. Created a really good impression.
    Now to the draw!

FA will not, I get that, but why can't the lending club give that permission?

Or do we still need permission from the FA?

I'd give it up as a bad job mate

From using this BBS I've learnt from experience that you can show someone the rules that are cast in bronze and they still won't believe you.

I know it doesn't matter for the semis, but which rule applies ?

    (j) Temporary (loan) Transfers

    (i) A player on a temporary (loan) transfer is ineligible to compete in the Challenge Cup Competition unless permission to do so is given by the lending Club in writing and a copy is received by The Association by 12 noon on the Friday prior to the date fixed for playing the Round. A registered Trainee or a player who is registered on a Scholarship may play for another Club, subject to written permission being given by the Club that he is registered to and provided that such permission is received by The Association by 12 noon on the Friday prior to the date fixed for playing the Round. The Association will not give permission for players on loan to play against the lending Club.

(ii) A player recalled, at any time prior to the date of the Round, to his original Club from temporary (loan) transfer, in accordance with the terms of the loan agreement, may represent his original Club. Such player may only play in postponed and replayed matches if he had been recalled in time for the first match.

(iii) A player on temporary (loan) transfer is eligible to compete if transferred by the lending Club to the loaning Club after the date and time for player qualification for a round.

(iv) In the Competition Proper, players on long term loan agreements, as defined by the Regulations of The Football League, are not considered "loan" players for the purposes of the Rule, and are therefore eligible to play in the Competition.

Either he is on loan and can't play, or he is onlong term loan and can play !

I guess he is an emergency loan, not long term, so he couldn't- but, if he had been on a long-term loan, could he have played ?

Pre-contract agreements only apply for players coming up to the end of their contracts at clubs not in England.
