Tykes stopper set for FA rap

Tue 17 Jun, 06:15 PM

Luke Steele faces a fine after ignoring a warning from the FA's disciplinary panel for wearing the wrong shirt last season. The Tykes goalkeeper has been charged with misconduct after wearing a shirt with a Surridge logo on the collar underneath his Barnsley top against Liverpool in the FA Cup. He then wore it in subsequent league games against Hull and Leicester.

Barnsley secretary Don Rowing said: "He's away, so he's not had chance to respond, but it was a logo on the neck of an under-garment.

"It's not something he's done deliberately, but their (the FA's) compliance department have got hold of it.

"He wore it in the game against Leicester after initially being seen wearing it against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

"We suspect he'll get some fine for not sticking to the rules."

    Thats an interesting one

Why is he not allowed to wear that but kozluk, devaney etc all wore other tops with logo's on them under their shirts.

And here is the offending item of clothing

Look carefully, you can just make out a tiny bit of white on the collar

From the same cup competition less than a month later, Devaney isnt fined for doing the exact same thing with the same logo visible

not being petty, but it is'nt a surrige top, its a under armour top, and yes quite a few players wear em. designed to keep you cool in summer, and warm in winter

    Keep in mind

that he hasnt yet been fined apparently, and we dont know if devaney is facing the similar problem.

it does all seem kind of silly though.

well, surely if they r going to fine steele, then all the others such as devaney, howard and campbell ryce, should also be fined as they were all wearing similar garments, with the logos on display

    Don't think that's the shirt

Those pics show the Under Armour shirt that most players wear, the artical said it was a shirt that had Surridge on it. Don't what the diff is but the Under Armour stuff is worn by most prem players, maybe theres a rule where they can't wear the kit makers shirt underneath. Seems daft though.

maybe its got to do with colour. Must be same colour as shirt, and it isn't green like the goalie top.

Isn't there a stupid rule about cycling shorts as well ?

If they wear them under their normal shorts they have to be the same colour. JCR wears a red top underneath his shirt maybe that's the difference as Steeles is a different colour to his shirt? (dunno)

Maybe it HAS to be Under Armour?

Does Under Armour have some sort of sponsorship agreement that means all players have to wear their stuff?

If they have paid a fair few quid for this, I guess they would be upset if Steele wore a Surridge one. Just guessing...
