Former Manchester United rookie keeper Luke Steele was the Barnsley hero after saving TWO penalties in 60 SECONDS - then declared: "Leaving Old Trafford was the best thing I ever did." With the Yorkshiremen a goal to the good through Foster's 27th-minute header, Steele brilliantly saved Ian Harte's well-struck second-half spot-kick then made an equally stunning stop from Noel Hunt. Incredibly, Steele had to face a THIRD penalty but was sent the wrong way by Hal Robson-Kanu with 16 minutes left. But by that time Done had already netted a second for the Tykes, who hung on for their first win of the season and first on the road since January. Steele, 26, said: "I would've walked off with the matchball had I made a hat-trick of saves! "Me and my goalie coach Ian Willcock study how our opponents take penalties and which way they go - but it's also about how the person shapes their body. "I was No3 choice at United so leaving there was the best thing to happen for me. I now have 150-odd games under my belt. I'd like to be back in the Premier League but only as the No1." think someone asked about our saleable assets the other day.. well Luke has to be one.. and that kind of display can only increase his standing in the game, and his value to Barnsley FC..
The Sun's match ratings Someone who went to the match may confirm that the ratings are a true reflection, but don't they look like the kind of ratings awarded by someone who didn't go to the match? "Right, Barnsley won, so give them all 7, apart from that one who everyone says has lost interest, give him 6, and give the two goalscorers 8. Hang on, Steele saved 2 penalties, so give him 10. But wait a minute, he let the third one in, so make it 9. Someone must have given the penalties away though, so let's give him 5. Hang about though, his manager took him off too, so he must have been terrible, so make it 4."
Re: The Sun's match ratings The suns ratings for us arent too far out from what I posted when I got back from the game Interesting that the Reading ratings are much worse than ours when they "played us off the pitch and we were very lucky to win " according to some on here not sure how Haynes got 6 though and Davies definitely undermarked - didnt score so you might be right here is what I posted on Sat Steele - 10 Motm - and a superb display didnt put a foot wrong all game and inspired the defence Wisemann - 7 fairly solid got sold a couple of times but most of Readings danger came from the other side Foster - 7 scored and didnt make too many mistakes at the back Edwards - 7 again a decent performance not world class or anything but solid Jay Mac - 4 definitely the weakest player in our back 4 - a couple of crucial interceptions lifts his score but reading had a field day down the left Perkins - 6 - definitely runs around a lot but not sure he achieves too much Sir Bobby 6.5 - not at his best but not in his best position either - the midfield looked better with only the one holding midfielder Butterfield 6 - poor game by his standards but created both our goals absolutely gorgeous ball to Done for the winner Done 7 - looks quite promising took his goal well and generally made a nuiscance of himself Haynes 4 - adequate first half looked like he didnt want to be there second half Davies 8 - not sure right wing is his best position but he looked a championship class player today Subs - McNulty 5 - marginal improvement on Jay mac and gave away the 3rd pen Gray - 6 much improved on Haynes actually looked like he wanted to be out there playing O'Brien 6 - not on for very long but did OK
