I'm pretty surprised a couple of defensive players won awards last night. We've scored around the same amount of goals as Derby County in 11th and only two less than Middlesbrough in 7th, so that pretty much shows it's the defensive side of the team that's let us down and if we had let in less goals we might have been much higher.
Regarding Steele... ... the arguement can be made if it wasn't for his saves, we would have lost or drawn more games. Everyone talks about Vaz Te's goals (and rightly so, they were important), but some of Steele's saves gained us valuable points as well.
Well said Have you heard any transfer rumours, mate? If what I've read is accurate, we're supposed to be after a few more Championship experienced players.
Re: Well said We've conceded 74 goals so far which is absolutely *****, particularly as it's not a high scoring division this season. No defender should given any accolade of any sort. Laughable really.
You're entitled to your opinion It is mine that, over the entire season, Luke Steele has been Barnsley's best player and deserves his accolade.
Re: You're entitled to your opinion I was referring to McNulty! I don't have too much of a problem with Steele getting it, though I voted for Davies myself.
Re: My mistake Think over the season Steele has been our only consistent performer, hasn't cost us many goals this year through his own mistakes. The one major problem with Steele's game is his kicking, and how many goals do we conceed from his poor kicking? I can't think of any, he's saved us on several occasions this season, and is for me, by a country mile, our most valuable asset. As for McNulty, hasn't he won player's player? I suppose that comes down to which player the squad has most liked playing and training alongside this season. In the first half of the season, I thought McNulty was a steady defender, but he offered more than that, he was composed on the ball, could pick out a pass, and set up a couple of goals earl on in the season. Must admit he's faded badly in the 2ndh half of the season, however I reckon part of the award may be based on his performances in training, for all I know, he could be the model professional.
Re: My mistake Although I am happy for Luke to have won, surely you could argue if he'd had a solid defence he wouldn't have had to make as many saves and would if anything have been regarded as having a poor season due to his kicking. eg I doubt Rob Green will have won player of the year at West Ham because he's hardly had anything to do all season
