I have to say, I love this attitude...

"Last season was brilliant for me. But I feel wasted,"

"Being on the bench means nothing to me. I don't want to play second fiddle, I want to go to a club where I can be a No.1."

Good lad - deserves his place in the team and fully justified the selection with his performance on Saturday. If I was him, with the talent he has, I'd have gone a long time ago. Keep up the great performances Luke!

    Yes, same here poet mate

If he does leave I hope all the best for him and hope he can play high level football later on. Great player.

Not sure I view it the same way.

"Last season was brilliant for me. But I feel wasted,"

It was brilliant for the TEAM for which he and Brian Howard stole the headlines for their performance at Anfield.

"Being on the bench means nothing to me. I don't want to play second fiddle, I want to go to a club where I can be No.1."

He retained his place this season and was only dropped after a dip in performances and Muller has played ok until recently. However Muller has now been dropped after making a number of errors and Steele has got to take his chance. He is saying he doesnt want to play for us if he is on the bench or indeed considered a No.2 so he wants to leave.

Does that mean that we should make him first choice because of this or should he be prepared to work hard and prove he is better than Muller?

    To be honest

I thought Muller was rushed back too early and that Steele was doing OK, albeit not repeating his heroics of the cup run. I also thought all season that we would end this campaign with only one of the two - both are deserving of regular first-team football and neither would stand for being frozen out.

However, players have to play the PR game. What he should be saying is (or making sure he is reported as saying!) is that he's happy to be back in the side and hopes he can retain his place in the team, perhaps expressing how disappointed he would be were he to lose his place if he were not given the same amount of chance afforded to his teammate. Giving the impression that he doesn't feel he has to earn the place - "Drop me again and I'm outta here" - does him no favours whatsoever in my eyes.

    Dip in performances?

He got the man of the match in his last match against Derby didn't he? And if he did indeed suffer a dip then surely by that reckoning, Muller should've been dropped far sooner than he did...

    RE: Dip in performances?

Derby wasn't his last game. He played against Blackpool and Cardiff after that game, two 1-0 losses.

But I still think he was unfairly dropped.

He didn't have a dip in performances.

At the time I thought it was very harsh he got dropped, he did nothing wrong. And he should have been back in well before now.

    Blackpool and Cardiff.

Two 0-1 defeats, of which, neither of the goals were his fault.

    RE: To be honest

    Agreed.

I am not debating who is the better keeper or whether they should or shouldn't be dropped. I am not sure I love his attitude or he may have been misquoted.

I am with you. He is just as good as Muller. If we can get a decent crust for Muller and keep Steele then we should.

    If Muller has said this..

he would be called from a pig to a dog.

Steele had the game of his life at Anfield and that's all people can remember...

I think he has been quoted out of context

He made those comments a couple of weeks ago - it was posted on here at the time.

I doubt very much he has said anything to sky or anyone else about quitting if he is dropped again since Saturday.

He was dropped after the game that Davey made him man of the match, absolute quality man management there Davey (seestars)

I dont blame Steele one bit for feeling this way; he has been treated like **** by Davey. If you do go Luke, thanks for your efforts and good luck (Y)

    Shame if true

He's a good keeper, better than Müller and one of the best we have had. I reckon he was dropped because it was thought we may get some dosh for Müller if he was in the "shop window". Another fine mess we got ourselves into.

Muller was put in to appease fans the same as with Anderson at the time against southampton... Muller should have been dropped mid march in my eyes

not many complained at the time though when steele was dropped.
don't think there is that much between the 2 keepers.
I think we're desperately looking for any chance to criticize the management because we're unhappy with the results (even if genuine mistakes have been made elsewhere).
