He’s not done anything anywhere else but with Barnsley it’s a perfect fit. Although it does scream a “desperate” appointment I still can’t help but think I’ll be giddy seeing him fist pump winning a “throw in” once more.
Don't think it screams desperation at all, if it's true. Fans are constantly banging on about toxicity and club being divided, they want something to bring us together. The board have & are currently acting on it mate.
Yeah I can see why you may think that. I’m probably better off explaining as I could have worded it better. My reason for saying it’s a bit of a desperate appointment is that it’s a clear “fan pleaser”. His CV hasn’t been great since leaving us and as a fan base we’d not be as excited if it was anyone else with similar. Anyway….thats not to say that it’s not the right appointment. I’m happy to have him back and looking forward to it if we are led to believe that this will happen. Are there better candidates available……yes Will the other candidates relate to the fans as good…..probably not. It’s a risky appointment as he doesn’t have the same quality of player available to him so for me it’s a harder job than last time. Either way tho, I’m happy about it as I want that connection back with the club. He will bring that in abundance.
That's a fair observation bud and I do agree with majority of it. If we cast our minds back over the years there's always been fans calling for ex-reds. McCarthy in particularly, despite us fans moaning about crap football, plenty wanted him despite him saying himself he would never come manage us. His CV is extensive but over the last few years has been incredibly poor. If we are to dip into ex-reds, I'd much rather us go for someone like Stendel who has a track record of playing good football, not always effective, doesn't always win, but at least we won't be bored as well as losing. I think if we lost with McCarthy, it'd be crap to watch, too. Obviously I'm not suggesting board are in for Mick, just using it as an example. I can see why the board are looking to bring Stendel back, I wouldn't be against it. People want Hecky back, I actually wouldn't personally. But each to their own. I do think he will reunite the fan base and I'd like to hope, we in return, give him & the board some time & grace to continue to build.
For me, it would just be brilliant to have a Coach who when appointed, doesn’t elicit a response “who”? One that actually enthused me. It might end up as a crock of ****, but for a least a few weeks it would be fantastic to see the whole Club and it’s fanbase come together again.
Collins, Duff, Val & Stendel all were relatively high profile names in football. Poya and Schopp however... Though personally I could understand why we actually looked at Schopp, because what he achieved at his previous club was remarkable. I personally couldn't care less about whether I knew them or not, a lot of people don't care about football overseas so unless they're a Messi or ronaldo they'd be who-ing a lot of times! Lots didnt know stendel but we quickly grew to love him. Same with Val, who gave us our 5th or 6th best season in our history. Anyone we take on deserves time. It isnt their fault we've stuttered bud. So hopefully we can hold back the toxicity and get behind whoever it may be!
I was upset when we got rid of him. I didn't think he deserved to be sacked, and it was unusual for a fan base, on the whole, to be unhappy about a coach being sacked. I would love to see him come back. Whether he can work his magic again, or if we can recruit and get the players to suit his style, I don't know. I would like to find out, though ,
Would be popular and I think the fanbase would see it as something to get behind so a big yes. What worries me is that the board went out and selected a manager like Mr Warhammer, this really showed little regard for the opinion of the fans and would have been seen as another Austrian ladies U12 signing. Fortunately they have a chance to get us back onside and lets hope they take it..
They selected a manager who has really good short term success. We needed short term success. I see no issue in it personally. We love insulting people and opining on them despite never hearing of them. Many fans didn't hear of Val, Struber or Stendel but they did fine mate.
True mate, but thought we needed a unifying appointment to get on top of the poor atmosphere and disjointed fanbase. Stendel fits that bill and in my humble opinion we need someone we've heard of with a record at this level (Look how popular the mention of Duff was, All forgiven Mickey welcome back).. Not critising the guy as ya sed, we kno nowt about him...
I agree in regards to uniting fan base bud, I really think it will despite seeing fair whack complaining on twitter, but that doesn't surprise me. I just really hope they get this appointment right because I'm currently really not enjoying football at the minute, and thats down to fan toxicity and culture
Can't speak about Nancy, but my recollection was that Hearts were a basket case at the time and fans were split on his departure. It's clearer cut at Oakwell - he had the backbone of his team ripped out and replaced with raw kids when we needed to be strong. For what it counts his record with Hanover II (basically our U21s) is very good. The German pyramid is a bit confusing, but as I read it they are on course to be promoted to the (national) third tier from the Regionalliga Nord If they win a play off (s). In any event they finished on top of their table.
