Assuming V Ismael leaves for West Brom (which seems highly likely as things stand) Would anyone wish to see Daniel Stendel return? As much as I liked the bloke I for one think not. They say you should never go back to a club as it never really works out...eg Allan Clarke, Danny Wilson etc and I don't think it would be the right move for DS and the club. I think yet another foreign manager is on the cards and VI will be a hard act to follow.

It's worked for Luton. Positives are he knows the club and some of the players, he plays an attacking style of football that I enjoyed watching and surely must have learned from his time in the Championship to tighten up defensively, plus we have better , more experienced players. Negatives are as you say never go back , too much water under the bridge? Still hopeful that things will break down with West Brom!

I think it is much more difficult now to get a manager in from mainland Europe much like it is with players. The blunts were apparently looking at the Oostende gaffer but had to drop it due to red tape.

If the owners employ them already then perhaps there’s a way around it with a secondment or something of that nature

No. Going back rarely works out for anyone and can ruin any good standing they have with the fans.

That promotion season under Stendel was some of the most entertaining & enjoyable football we've enjoyed since the Clarke/Hunter era. Agreed though - no, never go back. Seasons are unique, a coming together of a time, a squad, a manager and a set of circumstances. You can't recreate them to order.

It’s not going to happen for a variety of reasons so not really worth considering

I don’t think Stendel, Hecky, Struber & Val (after he leaves) should come back in the future.

I think they all did very good jobs for us but I don’t think fans would take to them. I’ve seen loads of snake & Judas posts over the last few years & I don’t think they’d ever win trust back.

This isn’t me personally as I’ve got nothing against any of them but just from what I’ve seen online.

Plenty of fans weren’t willing to give Wilson a second chance & he led us to the promised land.

Not seen anyone call Stendel or Struber a snake or Judas? And I can't imagine many would begrudge Val moving to a bigger club.

I was happy when wilson got the job 2nd time round in hindsight looking back it was a big mistake. Would you really want hecky or stendel back?

Do you think the length of time makes a difference. As in when Wilson came back it was new owners, new team etc whereas when Jones went back to Luton it was still the same set up with some of the same players?

In fairness that was a bit over the top on Struber. I have seen a few calling Stendel names over apparently been in contact with Huddersfield when he was still our manager.

There just seems a lot of bitterness. Lots hoping they do badly in future jobs. Unless they go to local rivals I hope they do well. For example I didn’t want Hecky to do well at Leeds but when it was going well at Hibs I’m happy for him, I hope Struber does well in New York, Stendel in France etc.

Going back tends to work more when you've left on a high and not on a failure. Nathan Jones left of his own accord without a relegation on his CV or a run of poor results. I think that gives you a better mentality when returning to a club.

Is it lots though in the grand scheme of things? A few disgruntled fans on Twitter and Tykes Talk isn't representative, and those with the strongest opinions always like to shout repeatedly from the rooftops.

I haven't seen much of that bitterness on here (the odd post here and there) and zero bitterness in my circle. So probably 1% of the fan base?

You’re probably right. I get Facebook notifications (I should probably turn them off) of occasional tykes talk posts & there’s loads of negativity & abuse.
