I've had a quick scan and am totally perplexed that there appears to be no mention of Dawson turning down a new contract at BFC. I'm sure I heard this on Dee Dah this morning. I didn't think it would be this easy to get shut. But is the lad totally delusional about his ability or have we offerred him a massive drop in money.
we've offered a contract, he's turned it down and there won't be another offered. i do hope we don't have another colace on our hands though, where he touts himself round, realises he can't get any better offers, and eventually accepts what's been offered. makes you wonder about the money situation though. in light of what bobby said as well. and just how competitive our budget actually is...we'll see
I have a slightly different opinion. I think it's neither good or bad news particularly. Stephen Dawson wants to play elsewhere. We'll see who he ends up playing for. My guess either Rochdale or Yeovil.... I'm not bothered he's off. I've not praised or criticised him, because I don't think he's great and don't think he's the worst player in the world. I think he's average. Championship below average, L1 perhaps he's just above average. I would rather he go if he doesn't want to be here. And we don't have to pay him off. Bonus. Bens interview with radio Sheffield was about an hour. Some very interesting points made and I feel optimistic things will be put right. Admits mistakes were made. The same ones most of us identify. Also, for those that didn't know, Ben used to be an agent I think....
http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?210874-Dawson-s-rejected-the-contracted I'm not worried about whatever he's turned down. He could have turned down 10k a week from us (obviously not) for all we know because he was upset at being fined for the Huddersfield incident, he's had more money offered somewhere else or has championship offers on the table. Just because someone turns down a contract for us people shouldn't automatically assume it's down to cash.
I'm more concerned that he thinks he can get a better contract offer at somewhere like Rochdale or Yeovil. It worries me that if we can't attract a player like Daws to stay that we'll struggle to attract a player of the calibre we need to get us promoted.
The worst thing about the Colace saga was, when he said he had to get a taxi back, regardless of the cost to sign for us. Did he honestly think, that would make things better? Everyone would forget about the fact that he'd as much as left us for Palace only to find they were offering even less money than us. Still bewildered as to how he managed to get player of the season that year, and still wish we hadn't let him come back so easily. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
